As a parent who recently lost my 20 year son in a car crash, this song truly gets to the emptiness and pain of losing a child. It is truly unimaginable. Seeing the pain my wife is in "if I could spare his life; If I could trade his life for mine; he'd be standing here right now" is a sentiment I feel everyday. I was at the scene of the crash and pulled my son from the wreck and he died in my arms.I would have given anything to have traded places with him.

This song always makes me so emotional. Especially the "you knock me out, I fall apart" It really shows how vulnerable he is. The whole musical shows Lin's, and the cast, outstanding talent, but I think this is one of the most beautiful songs. I have listened to the soundtrack so many times now and it makes me sad that I will probably never get to see the musical, especially with the original cast. Cannot wait for the dvd to be released. (Even though it might take another decade )

The part that gets me the most is when he says “I know who I married”, saying that Eliza didn’t know how Hamilton really was when they got married and it ended with his affair, but he knows Eliza is just like she is, caring, sweet, nice and overall, a very strong woman, so he knows that maybe she won’t forgive him, but she will let him stay by her side, because Eliza is as wonderful as she is.

Ok, that's probably the most depressing, sad, melancholic, yet pretty and beautiful song of the whole musical. I cry every. fucking. time. goddammit. And Hamilton's shaking voice, God, I can't... And for some reason I can't name, I LOVE the harmonies in the line "The Hamiltons move uptown", at the begining.

First time I watched Hamilton, that was just...last week. The first time I got to this song, I was caught emotionally off guard. Unlike most of the other songs in the show, which are super catchy and sends you urges to bounce up your chair and dance to the beat, this song is surprisingly calm. I sat down, instantly connected, mesmerized by the melody gentling flowing through the room. For the first time, Hamilton (both the character and the show) really calms down. The second time I listened to it wasn't long after finishing the show. Most other songs got stuck in my head as earworms, but this one, it's just..... quiet. So quiet and soothing, that I was almost certain this was the piece of me that's been missing. I knew I needed to listen to the song again. I sat there and played it, allowing it to sink it, to gently caress me. It sang about grievance, and yet, peaceful as a baby asleep, I smiled. Today I listened to the song for the third time, not long after a panic episode. I've been working day and night on my many college papers and assignments, counting the days towards deadlines, counting the number of those that has already missed the deadline. Doomed, it rings to me, as I stare helplessly at the blank pages with little progress. Doomed, it hits me, as I curse myself for succumbing deeper into tempting distractions every time panic strikes. I listened to the song, and before long, I broke down. I found myself crying out loud, trembling, feeling as if something inside opened, emotions pouring out and no longer restrained.... yet at the same time, a wound began to close, to heal, as I let myself fall in the song's embrace. Forgiveness...... Can you imagine?

I always remember my dog when listening to this, for some reason. She died from a heart attack and I saw people take her body away. It was around four years ago, but I will never forget. She was another mother figure to me, very protective of me, she listened to my terrible singing and stories for almost a decade.. Licked my wounds and was the best companion I could ever ask for.
