Nick Jacobs (KSHB 41) and Matt Derrick (Chiefs Digest) break down the 91-player roster of the Chiefs by position group and analyze what training camp battles loom ahead for Kansas City when the squad reports to St. Joseph. Nick and Matt discuss which position groups appear the strongest, where the weak links could emerge and who are the players to watch during camp.

Realistically our top 5 receiving options are Kelce , Hollywood, Rice, Worthy and Watson. After that it’s really about injuries and who can come in . So I see Hardman and Toney making it. Add Pacheco in the mix and it’s a lock

I'd see Wiley potentially having a targets advantage on Watson for that fifth spot there, with Kelce playing reduced snaps this year.

For some reason I had a dream where #9 was running all over the field, taking hand offs, catching passes,seemed like CMC, it was the only time I have ever had the chiefs in any dream and it was like 5 different plays, it was viewed from the field so hey maybe I was 15 but more likely just a field reff

July and August will be big months for Moore in KC. He has been give plenty of chances, especially last year. It is up to him if he can make the most of the snaps or fade into the crowd.

Chamarri Conner is most likely your starting slot corner, is he not?
@KCChiefsDigest
@KCChiefsDigest 23 күн бұрын
That's certainly the impression. There will probably be times when a third corner is on the field and McDuffie moves into the slot, and there may be packages with Nic Jones in the slot. But I think Conner will get more of those snaps this year than he did in 2023.

Edit* holy crap Jaylen Watson cut candidate now? Wow, how/ why? Did he fight dogs like buggs? Jaylen Watson cb5? I don’t get the Joshua Williams love, it’s because he’s 6’3? And we overrate Nazeeh Johnson based on one minicamp before he had a major injury.
@KCChiefsDigest
@KCChiefsDigest 23 күн бұрын
As I was finishing my written companion piece to the podcast, I reconsidered my comments on Watson. I think it's unfair for me to describe him as a cut candidate -- and I didn't articulate that well at all. He is coming off shoulder surgery, and the Chiefs were never precisely clear if it was the shoulder or another issue that kept him limited during OTAs and minicamp. That said, he will have something to prove once the team gets to camp but he is behind everyone else. I have a hard time slotting him any where but corner No. 4 or No. 5 right now.

Sorry but I think the Justin Watson being a "lock" over Hardman is not a good take. Watson has **some** special teams value and can be a weapon in very rare situations when he decides to fight for a sideline ball but to think this dude has earned a roster spot over Mecole is kinda wild to me. Who on this roster is Dave Taub going to look to when the Chiefs need a play in the return game in a critical situation? It's Mecole.
@NickJ71
@NickJ71 22 күн бұрын
There are very few things I loathe more than the word "take". It is a catchy buzz word that gets associated with trying to get viral attention. Here's the reality. I gave you an observation or opinion that has a lot of press conferences and film behind it. Justin Watson is one of the few receivers that can play every position on the offense. That is why his checks keep clearing, that is why he keeps getting brought back. In the event of injury he is plug and play. Mecole is on year five, they let him walk twice and didn't sign him until late in the off-season program. If he were more valuable than Watson like you say. He would have be re-signed twice now, when they had the opportunity to lock in a multi-year deal. Watson got the multi-year deal. Mecole as a returner is 50/50 on if he will cleanly catch the return. His speed and the lack of a better option is what continue to give him special teams snaps. The crazy part is we likely aren't having this conversation if one of the two fumbles Mecole coughed up burned them in Buffalo. The press conferences, snaps counts, who they sign and when they sign them can take away the wild part for you. They will always given you tea leaves if you just keep tabs.

Here’s a better question for you Moe. How do people do podcast of OTAs and minicamp despite not being in attendance to observe anything other than video posted by the team? Or basing them primarily off press conferences streamed by the team and tweets by people there. Pads will bring clarity for OL/DL/LBs and RBs. But you can still see who stands out athletically without the pads. Or how a team views them by where they work rep wise. Have a delightful day Moe.

@@NickJ71 I’m taking what Chris Jones said and the tight end coach said over you and any podcaster because when they asked him about Wiley he he looks good but let’s wait until training camp when the pads are on and the DB’s can actually compete against you physically and that’s the same thing Chris jones said about the OLine but I’ve played organized football and I know it’s totally different once training camp and pads come on now it’s a even game for the DB’s so you aren’t just talking to someone who likes the game and sorry for the late response but I have a life and a off season as well
