410 Rio 3" 11/16oz Factory 8 Lead Shot. Hull Breakdown and Patterning

Hey folks,
Doing another "What's in the Box" video. Breaking down and petterning Rio 410 3" 11/16oz in 8 shot. This seems to be a great target load..soft shooting and decent pattern. Hull length is a bit short. Hit the subscribe button.

I have a "Survival Loader" it's like the old Lee Loader hand tool set. It could reload those 2 3/4" shells. It's a slow way to load, but I am just putting a few shells together for my short hunts on land that requires non-toxic loads. That and it's hard to find .410 on the shelves at all. When I do it's all 2 1/2" "defense" loads like 000 buck or odd duplex loads for Judge pistols. Hand loading for the .410 is a must these days.

I noticed you using your needle nose to open up the crimp. I just wanted to share that I use a old Co2 cartridge to open up on my shells. Using the narrow end where the puncture seal is works really well on .410 and 20 gauge. For 12 gauge I start with that end if needed but I can usually get the butt end started pretty well. The only reason I use the cartridge is I noticed I got uneven results and sometime tearing on the crimp using pliers and the cartridge provides even distribution on the hull without any tearing. Im fairly new to 410 loading but i been getting on it, not new to any other loading. The 410 bore is def a diffrent animal to load for. I cant add too much to 410 info. But ill walk with ya and experiment myself and share

@@horn410 no it's not hard, just diffrent, I'm mainly a brass man, rifles, pistols, past year or so I been going through the lead in 12g, I just dont have a press for 410 so I hand load them, h110 seems to really well for me, you guys cross the pond make some killer(literally) slugs

Usually extended chokes will give you a tighter pattern. Briley full and extra full produce great patterns at 30-35 yards.

I got some of these in Rio 3" in 7.5. I just bought them because I was backordered at BPI for over a year on 410 hulls. Totally regretted the purchase. Terrible patterns due to crappy lead and short fill!!! And low velocity at only 1067fps. And just like you I realized the hulls were not 3! Actually measured at 2.85" Only good for roll crimp given the non-standard dimensions.

The little pee shooter has its limitations but then that is real hunting, not gettin, enjoyed it much as usual going to work with the 3 inch BP 410 cases later on today. I enjoy 12 gauge and load quite a few of the Fiocchi colored plastic hulls which crimp nicely . I remember paper 410 shells by federal , different colors in the box.(paper) 25 shells 4.25 a box, back in 1968. Three brothers we each got 8 shells flipped for the 9th. West Texas was a tough place to buy ammo. Gibsons had 12 back then for 1.85 a box but the store was 40 miles away. LOL Dad would get us shells at service stations , taverns etc. loved my childhood. Mossberg 183B Bolt Action with a missing poly choke , must have been a skeet2 barrel with no choke. LOL

H110 does me well, 4 00plus buck balls going 1470 fist sitze pattern at 30 yrds, same with 3cinch but 5 instead of 4 balls
