The original Sprite/Midget was a very lightweight car. By the late 1970's the MG Midget had become heavier with reinforced features and rubber bumpers. As a result, the front suspension was "taxed to the max."
The Midget A Arm needs to be kept well lubricated and maintained to prevent damage. John Twist removes the fulcrum pin and king pin and explains how they work. With "judicious use of a torch" the parts can be separated, inspected, and reassembled.

when restoring my 69 Midget suspension at 100K I noticed cracks near the fulcrum end of both A arms. For a second I thought of welding them up, but I opted to replace them with new A arms equipped with a fitted fulcrum pin and double grease zerks. I suspect the twisting of the A arm caused the cracking. The twisting was probable due to worn fulcrum bushings. The design could have been much better. Like the extra zerk you mention. I also found the seals around the fulcrum pin were not very substantial. The water gets in and fulcrum pin corrodes prematurely if you don't grease them often. The factory used cork seals which seems very fragile so when I replace the fulcrum pin I found some much tougher seals at the local hardware store.
