If you remove the shock from the lower control arm, the LCA will drop enough to remove the CV from the hub. Use a floor jack under the LCA to hold then slowly drop it. Easier than removing the knuckle.

@4:16... those screws were added by manufacturers to help mitigate corrosion between the rotor and the bearing flange. These actually prolong the life off your brakes, by insuring that your rotors aren't unevenly tightened against the bearing face due to corrosion. You also mention that the rotors were loose. That's because they're called floating rotors. They're supposed to be that way. Pressure from the wheel being tightened against the rotor/bearing flange holds everything in place.

@mdocod4 жыл бұрын
@@420motors Maybe someday I'll have to save up for a set. Though I kind of prefer the "fuse" be the easy-to-replace half-shaft rather than the expensive front diff w/locker. Not sure if the geometry is the same, but on my H3 if I pop the steering link and the upper I can twist the knuckle enough to replace the half shaft without removing the lower joint. It's not about laying it down, but twisting it to the side and down and finding the right angle where it frees up the most room to pull the shaft out of the knuckle.
@420motors4 жыл бұрын
I think the H3's aluminum front diff housing would still fail before the stock half-shafts, no?
@mdocod4 жыл бұрын
@@420motors I have a 2009 adventure. Iron front with locker. It's also a 5 spd manual so pretty rare config. Half shafts (out CV actually) have been the weak point for me, but it's an easy fix. I always keep a spare in the back. Honestly, my biggest issue with the thing at this point is breakover clearance. Even with the t-bars cranked and long shackles it only has about 12" of clearance in the middle. Need a way to lift it about another 2-3 inches and it would be perfect.

Nice job on the video. A couple of things with the torque wrench and also the ball joint removal: * It's best not to loosen bolts with a torque wrench. If you exceed the capacity loosening a bolt you will ruin the calibration. * Your digital torque wrench has settings for inch pounds of torque. If not divide in/lbs by 12 = ft/lbs. * Removing ball joints: Screw the nut on but not all the way, so the bolt is recessed enough into the bolt that when you hit the bolt with a hammer it doesn't hit the bolt. You can also put one hammer against what you are hitting and then hit that hammer with another hammer. This will minimize damage. * Alternatively you can also put some penetrating oil on the ball joint pin and then smack the knuckle on the side where the pin goes through. Smack it a few times pretty hard and frequently this will pop it loose. Put the nut on loosely so that when I pops loose it's held together. Hope this helps some of you guys out there
@420motors5 жыл бұрын
Thank you sire. I’m sure it helps. Yea definitely regret using the torque wrench like that. Also that one starts at 12foot pounds and goes up to 250. The thing that worries me about these bulletproof CVs, is it moves the weak point to the ring and pinion. It’s a lot easier to replace a CV or just throw the stub shaft in the hub than it is to deal with a broken ring and pinion out on the trail. I’ve seen a few guys with RCVs break the ring and pinion out on the trail.
