This is probably the most informationally inclusive video I have seen for ANY GM vehicle. They really need to share with their customers what level of effort and intricacy goes into the design and development of vehicles like this. Such an incredible video! Question for AEV: Was there any though to relocate the rear shock brackets? I don't own a ZR2 but it is my understanding from other videos and owners that the shackle is the lowest point on the vehicle, even lower than the rear diff.

Great vid. I did extrication training for one of the big rescue tool manufacturers. That boron skid plate would not be an issue for us. 1, its position does not typically effect rescue. 2. While the boron is super strong, many of the newer tools do cut it now. 3.where its at its unlikely we would use the cutters to cut it, flat sheets like that are better cut using a recip saw or other tools. (You dont actually cut boron, you microfracture it)3. If I had to defeat it, the fail point would be the attachment points. We would roll off the attachment points spreading the metal holes or failing the bolt itself. . Its truely impressive to see the application of advanced steels into a factory truck. The ability to buy all this with factory warrenty is nuts. Very well done!!! Love the new trends with delivering outfitted units. Amazing all the little factors you never think of that go into a collaboration (crash testing, fuel efficiency etc etc)

Wow, GM has amazing technology such as computer-based visualization of crashes in which one can even see that a change to the bumper could lead to someone's head hitting the sun visor! They are truly awesome. Any chance their technology can invent rear shock mounts that don't just about drag on the ground?

Chevy placed them there for maximum articulation. If you move them up you sacrifice suspension travel. Also, in testing in Windrock, Moab and the Rubicon, never once was this an issue.

That is what came to mind back when I first saw them mounted there. There is a company that makes mini skids for them for added insurance as well. Great video! Thank you for all of your hard work. I am a fan...

American Expedition Vehicles, that’s funny. So you are saying ground clearance doesn’t matter, just trust me. No, thanks. Not even with mini skids. I live in Vegas, with ruble and rocks everywhere. I won’t ever ignore basics, having to trust my life to hardware if I going wheeling in summer. Like I said, when they change this obvious design flaw, I would seriously consider. Currently hoping for the ford ranger raptor to come here from Australia, without sacrificing ground clearance. Would love to buy American again.

Nice truck, really happy the midsize off road segment is heating up! Makes companies really work hard to earn your dollar. Might have to test drive one of these and compare it to my '18 TRD Pro Tacoma. The only thing I'd be worried about is reliability on GM's. Been around long enough to know people that own them either have a bulletproof Chevy or one they cant wait to sell. I know the Tacoma has some minor issues I see on the forums, but I know I can use and abuse mine, put it away wet, and the thing will hit very high mileage with great resale. The only thing i need to do is put gas and oil in it.

The want is strong. Been looking for a solid overland-prepped rig for use in the Philippines. Used to be the Asian market trucks put the US stuff to shame (they were made to run in rough areas and the US stuff was all highway-biased), but wow has that changed! I think it’d be worth exporting a US rig like this now. Can’t get anything in the Asian domestic market that comes close to this. With the diesel (which is the same basic engine they’ve been running in Asia for a long time), finding fuel is cheaper and easier (plus import taxes are lower). Best part: I don’t have to try to engineer my own integrated package of mods... the actual integration and testing has been done by GM and AEV. Do the leveling AEV recommends, put some 33s or 34s on it, stick a canopy on back with a good roof rack system to haul my gear, boom... done. No guesswork about whether I have underpinnings that will actually work together reliably, because this stuff has all been beaten to death by GM and AEV already. Ready to explore development sites out in the rugged backcountry of a foreign land. And the interior, being US-spec, is a heck of a lot nicer place for a 6’4” American to spend hours behind the wheel. 😉 Props to AEV for their work on this and being willing to do the unsexy engineering that revolves around meeting standards. It sounds boring, but I’m an aerospace systems engineer... I know first hand how important that kind of work is. Props to GM for leveraging the expertise of the aftermarket and bringing to market a well-prepped rig like this. Props to the channel for sharing this vid! I really appreciate seeing the details and hearing the backstory. Great stuff all around. 👍 Hopefully will be a customer very soon, depends on my export timing needs. If I didn’t already have a Silverado 2500 Duramax for farm duties, I’d be buying one of these for my acreage in rural Washington right now!

Toyota is sitting on their hill still thinking they are the only truck in this category. They passes on innovation and engineering for over a decade and kept their trucks cheap with rear drum brakes into the 2000's. GM saw this, and the ZR2 was born. Ford is here with their offering. Who's the king of the hill now?
