Hosted at the Playground Poker Club, the $3,850 CAD buy-in event attracted 648 runners. The prize pool was nearly $2.2 million CAD with $317K to first place. When Mike Sexton made the final table, his spot in the booth next to Vince Van Patten was replaced by Tony Dunst.

I met Mike at the 2006 WSOP and had a chance to talk with him, as he was waiting to play in one of the side games always playing at the sidelines of the WSOP. I complimented his style of poker, and told him about my winning an entry to one of the WSOP 2K events. He noticed I was wearing an old Army baseball cap, and asked me about my service, and mentioning he had been in the 82d Airborne during Vietnam. I was a graduate of Ft. Benning's 'School for Boys', and otherwise known as Officer Candidate School, a battalion sized school near the jump towers where the 82d Airborne practiced jump conditions. That definitely broke-the-ice, and for about another half-hour, before his game, we talked like old friends...he was just that gracious a person, polite and outgoing with everyone. RIP Mike up there and hope to see you again in another life!
