$425 seems cheap. I don’t think there’s anything better for the appearance of the yard than a skilled landscaper and his weedeater & edger. Debris kicked out doesn’t matter, you’re gonna be cleaning it up the same. Weedeater rounds the edge better imo bc it “gives” whereas the rotary scissors do not. For that look, it’s ideal to utilize a tool that can bend and contort.

When I was in the army, the highest ranking enlisted soldier in each unit is the CSM (Command Sergeant Major). He would make soldiers get their issued shovel AKA entrenching tool and make them dig out at least 4-6 inches of edging from the sidewalk to the grass. Why didn’t someone come out there with an edging machine? maybe it was just punishment. But it looked sharp….. never walk on the CSM’s grass! I had a very bad black top, jagged edge street in front of my house and I would edge back 4-6 inches and made it look sharp. My wife would say, “I see you have the Sergeant Majors edges going on out front!”

The main reasons I don't use this Japanese Rotary Scissor with my Ego Power Tools is due to their maintenance requirements. They require EP (extreme pressure) grease at regular interval and their blades require sharpening just like lawn mower blades. Unlike a string trimmer which you can simply replace to string or the blade edger which you can either replace the blade, this rotary scissor seems like too much maintenance for me.

Happy Independence day Alyn! 🇺🇸 I'm glad I'm not the only person that falls over random things in the yard 🤣. Interesting comparisons between the weed whacker, edger and scissors. The cost is what's keeping me away from getting those currently. I'm pushing my luck right now as it is with my wife. She is buying a lawn mower from her uncle for me.
@GoFastGator2 жыл бұрын
You can avoid the wear on the housing by walking the turf side and feeling along the hard edge with the bottom blade. Also, these are available with larger diameter blades that help make it an even better edger and much easier to edge from the driveway/sidewalk side without damaging the housing. Try edging from the turf side with the unit held low and projecting out in front of you.

Great to see you've adapted it to an EGO power-head. I like EGO products and already have the Scissor head mounted on my Echo Gas power-head and while this scissors doesn't require lots of power, I often wondered if I could get it onto an EGO if I bought one. I find myself almost at an idle with the gasser but still need ear plugs. Going to electric would negate ear plugs and I could start super early in the morning while cooler out as well. I never use it for edging into the dirt since that dulls the blades quicker. I sharpen fairly often with an angle grinder with 60 grit flap disc and follow the angle to quickly give a sharp fresh edge. I planted lots of young spruce trees and this is a much better option over the string trimmer where one slip and you can instantly girdle a tree. Ask me how I know. Only thing a line trimmer is good for is chain link fences in my opinion. One area that I avoid using the scissors is by flower cages and chain links. Otherwise its super awesome for making nice circles around trees as low as you want and keeping it uniform.

I have a zoysia lawn and tried my neighbors who bought one for his Bermuda. It works well but my string trimmer / edger combo does the job really well. I think this is a nice to have but too cost prohibitive. There are other lawn products I would recommend people spend their money than this one. A tow behind sprayer, a really good blower and or a reel mower are phenomenal investments to put your $400 + towards first if you don’t own these

@@ryanesposito5755 The overwhelming majority of PRS owners have no regrets whatsoever. I only hear complaints from people who don't own one! Value is pretty irrelevant if you are already mowing under 1" with a reel mower (or a robot!) and all the extra expense that comes with that. I was doing pretty good edging with a string trimmer (not my first rodeo there) but the borders were a bit wider than I liked, and I'm WAY faster with the PRS. Like 3-5x faster, especially hard edges.
@ryanesposito57552 жыл бұрын
@@GoFastGator I would never suggest that anyone would regret owning one once you owned it. The product works great and your assessment on speed and cut is true indeed. Getting people to plunk down almost $500 will be your hurdle. The juice isn't quite worth the squeeze. At $200 you'd sell them. There are simply other products that do the job adequately for much less. I would bet that will be the majority of the commentary you receive here, but I could be wrong.

07:40 I dealt with my uneven blacktop edges by cutting them straight. I did this with a cheap corded circular saw and a blade for cutting concrete pavers. I made an 8 foot long track from 1/4" plywood and a straight 1x3. Together the saw and the blade cost me $60 (20 years ago). Make the width slightly wider than the distance from the edge of the saw base that rides along the 1x3 to the blade. The first time you use it you will cut off the excess leaving you with a perfectly trimmed track for that saw. Now snap a chalk line on the blacktop and set the track right on the line. Set the saw for a 1/2 depth of cut to start and cut the blacktop. Go back and recut deeper until you reach max depth. This will not be enough to all the way through but it will be deep enough. When you get the whole line cut go back with a 3" wide brick chisel and 2# drilling hammer and knock off the ragged blacktop. You'll be left with a nice, straight edge that will be easy to trim. I did this 20 years ago on my driveway, and it's paid off every year since. The other place this tool shines is edging flower beds and your mulch beds at the base of a tree. It's used at golf courses all the time to trim along sand traps and flower beds.

As someone that spent many years doing asphalt… letting those grass roots grow on/in the asphalt like that makes me cringe. That will erode the edges fast in areas where freeze/thaw cycles occur. The issues then propagate across the asphalt mat and BOOM. Big problems. Expensive problems… because the landscaper wanted to have pretty lines. There are much better alternatives and I’m quite honestly disappointed that you would even allow such a thing to happen on a customer’s property. 😞
