Thanks for this video. Very interesting to see how it looked before it became a nature reserve. Because there is a lack of information about that on the former depot. Everything about nature is being explained but not how it became the nature reserve or how it looked back then. The stills and the videos gave me a little insight in how it used to look. Thanks again.

OMG. Thank you for posting this. I spent from 78/82 there as an armourer from 431MU. We did the 100lb servicing. Did up a load of sneb pods for selling to the French and the cluster bomb servicing. Great time to be based there and a beautiful place to work. We had the good old fashioned Massey Ferguson RT tractors and eager beavers to play with. Army guys were friendly and the mess and NAAFI were good and all. Its now a wildlife reserve.

At 19yrs old I spent 3 yrs here from 1973 with the R.A.O.C, saw my first topless girl in the Rio bar in Bruggen, enjoyed great fish and chips at Dennis`s chipy down the road from the camp, worked at 1 Sub Depot as a storeman, then for the Motor Transport section operating hyster fork lift trucks, eager beavers and rangers working for Traffic section railway sidings, then spent some time with security testing the MSU War dogs in dog suits, and some of those dogs new where the weak spots where around the groin area, and they managed to get a few yelps out of the lads from time to time, and when they ran after you and caught up to you, it was like being hit by a sumo wrestler at full pelt, it was one of the only times i was ever armed with live ammo on guard duty, just after the SAS shot an IRA man in Roermond which wasn`t that far away from us, spent most weekends in Venlo, the Germans where ok but i really liked the Dutch, and we did drink a lot,one of our favourite bar in Bracht was owned by 3 (i think they were sisters) called "The Six Tits", it used to get so cold in the winter, one night driving from Bracht married quarters to a do at camp we had to use neat rum to de-ice the windscreen of my mates Opel Record , man that was a cold night, bought my first motorbike there a 250cc Suzuki Ram Air, there`s so much more to tell but i think enough is enough.

I served my national service there 57/59. Interesting to see how much it has changed. I worked in 2 sub depot next to the demolition area , every day explosions occurred. Vast quantities of claymore mines were being deactivated by having their fuses removed. Any “difficult” ones were blown up. The mines were then taken away by German contractors to broken down for metal and fertilisers ! We had a great cross country running course , some of it over old asparagus beds . Great for wildlife.

Great, thanks for posting. I was there for two years from '79 to '81, great times, especially rallying round the perimeter track in a Bedford CF or a Land rover! Where has the genny gone? Starting the genny in a cold winters morning was an art in itself, just to get a bit of light and a cup of tea!

Thanks a lot for this video. My husband an I spend all automn time on the camping Heidecamp nearby. And we often went through this natural area. But I can´t imagine how this area looked like as it was the great depot. And because of your video now I can imagine the work-places there where now all the nature grows. It´s very exciting for me to see the big amounts of ammunition on this place to the time of my youth. To memory that there were lots of soldiers in my youth-time where now only nature is that is a big surprise to see for me. Thanks so much to you that I can imagine this time now.
