They actually changed the law here in Oregon. You can pump your own fuel, if you want but they still have people wandering around to do it for you if you want. I pumped my own fuel just a couple hours ago since I'm not crippled or old.

25:55. I am an Oregonian. The reason for this gas pump law was mainly to give more people an option for an easy minimum wage job (as far as I can tell). In very rural areas of Oregon (where there might only be one gas station in town and the next town with gas is 50 miles away), the law wasn’t enforced, but in larger towns and cities it was. It sucked when you pulled up to a gas station with 8 pumps and 2 employees; the lines sometime would only be one car waiting at each pump and it would still take 20 minutes. It recently changed a few months ago though, so now all gas stations have half of the pumps as self serve, and half as full service (meaning someone still pumps your gas for you). Now my new biggest issue is that some of my fellow Oregonians think they should pump their own gas, but are even slower than the employees. It’s always astounding to me that I can pull up to a fuel pump behind a car that has already parked at the self serve pump in front of me, and I can shut my vehicle off, get out, undo the gas tank lid, scan my credit card, begin pumping fuel, and look up to see that the person in front of me hasn’t even made it out of their car yet.

Best ones for me is when they ignore the self service pumps to get gas but decide to self service in the full service pumps. But for real from the previous law as someone who was in a drivers ed class before the change they didn't teach you how to pump your own gas. Might have been different in other towns but its terrifying when the first time you have to learn is when everyone is trying to fuel up to evacuate from a wildfire.
