Put a solar powered led light inside of it, that comes on when its dark. But keep the fixture hidden. That would look good.

I built my cupola seven years ago when I built my pole building. I put a cheap solar powered light inside mine, to this day, if the sun shines during the day, the solar cupola light shines at night.

I just want to say that I love the way you speak about your wife. In a world where drama equals views it's wonderfully refreshing to see a man who speaks about his wife like the gift from God that she is. Thank you for that. It's an inspiration to us all. I've been following you for years since the old red Ford got fixed up and I can't remember a single cross word. Only love and admiration. I look forward to every video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your family with us. The cupola looks fantastic. I can't wait to see it finished.

Absolutely love the cupola! I can't get over how much you remind me of my husband of 40 years that I lost to cancer almost two years ago. He was creative and meticulous and talented like you and I tried to help him like Cedar does you. You have a real good handle on things for this winter and it should be much easier. Love your videos....so relaxing and enjoyable. Great editing!

Slip, Sliding, Away! That song comes to my mind every time I see you on the roof of your shop. You commented about how Cedar could still run things if something were to happen to you but, Heath, quit taking unnecessary chances. I speak from experience after falling 17 feet from my shop when I didn't want to take time to tether for placement of one small item. 23 surgeries later, I finally can walk with the assistance of crutches.

I had a honda 185 3 wheeler. It had all the power I needed and was faster than I ever wanted to go. I used it mending fences, checking on newborn calves and getting to and from the deer blind. That was 20 years ago and it still it still runs great. I have worked on the motor several times rings plugs, condenser etc. I changed the oil regularly. I never drove it like a nut racing my brother or trying to do doughnuts on gravel. It has been a great investment, and yes I bought it used.

I built a cupola which is still on the train rounding house at Greenfield Village Dearborn Michigan, that is one of the coolest things I ever had the privilege of building!! It was totally octagonal with roof and vane. Being at a historic place made it even sweeter!! You can look it up! I'm so glad that you love the old style of things too. Yours is looking great also!! Much love and blessings always!😇💜

Probably answering my own question about painting the cupola. I think I remember you saying the shop will be done in stained, board & batten (to match the house). So the siding and the cupola will end up matching. With everyone's suggestion about solar LEDs. It would end up looking more like a lighthouse. lol !

You did an outstanding job on this Cupola, you are a wonderful builder and Designer. You can be very proud of your work and character. What everyone is saying about the light being a great addition goes for me also, but it might have been a good idea if you had made one of the 4 sides of the Cupola a hinged unit that you could of had easy entrance inside the unit for any maintenance that would have been needed. With your experience and knowledge thow I'm sure you can figure a way to easily cut a door inside for anything you might have to do. Thanks for giving me another enjoyable morning watching you and your family, and may God bless you and your family, and you guys "Have a Wonderful Day" to.

The cupola came out amazing. Your attention to detail and craftsmanship skills really shine through with creations like this. You should install a ridiculously bright light in it to serve as a beacon to your family and friends when they're trying to get to Red Poppy Ranch in inclement weather - maybe of a color that's significant to your family. Or perhaps one of those red/green nautical lights for extra interest. Possibly wired in a way it can be turned on from the house or from the workshop.

Green dream project just ran into the exact issue of a rain catchment system as they finished building a 13,500+ gallon cistern in time for the summer monsoon season only for it to be very dry so they will likely need to buy water soon. It was a fun project to watch as they built a cistern out of earth bags for the cost of one of the 2,500 gallon poly tanks but with a high labor cost as they did the work by hand for the most part. The colors not matching from different cans of random paint is the reason places that take donated paint mix all the latex paints together to get a random color per big batch then fill 5 gallon buckets with the resulting color. Yes they do it so they don't need to store random colors but it would work for color blindness also to take random blue partials and dump in a 5 gallon bucket to mix into a single color.

I'll be 50 in December and I remember fond memories of 3 wheeler riding in my teens. I started off on a Honda 110. It was great to learn on because it had very little power... Still, I got hurt many times on that due to no suspension. When I got a little older, I got a 200X and then a 250R. There is a HUGE difference between the two and you are right in getting the 200X for your son. The 250R is for advanced riders... an inexperienced rider can get in trouble quickly with that kind of power.

Nice thing about paint is it can be changed. My youngest son is colorblind also so has trouble picking colors. Although we don't get much rain in the summer I want a rain catch system. With the metal roof the dew settles on it and I have eave drips most every morning except in the driest part of summer. But those systems are expensive!!! Love the cupola!
@marcryvon
@marcryvon 4 жыл бұрын
Heath, making a rain water collecting "system" is far from complicated ! One or two of those used blue plastic 45 gals drums used for food purposes - oil, olives etc.- on a lil' stand and 2' of gutter downpipe, a 6" hole atop the cover, a mesh, and a simple garden hose faucet. Voilà ! Cedar will have plenty of water for her garden !

You were talking about keeping all your systems for water simple enough that your family could operate them in your absence. I have a few systems in my cabin (water, heat and electricity) that I don't think are very complicated, but they all have to be turned on and off in the correct sequences to work properly. So when I let a friend stay there without me a couple of years ago I made a detailed step by step instruction of where all the valves and switches were located (I described what the switches looked like and I drew a simple map with their positions in the beginning of the instruction) and in which order to open and close them. It worked really well. He said that he read it very closely and that he double checked all the steps when he switched everything on and then later off again. And when I came to the cabin a few weeks later everything was in perfect order... So maybe you could try that?

Looks great, one note, Grace Ultra has a 12 month UV exposure rating. After 12 months it will start to break down and ultimately fail, I would put the rig cap back on inside the Cupola to cover the rig back up.

It is always satisfying to get a project done that one has been building in your mind for a while. I do that type of thinking and drawing and thinking and drawing. Finally it becomes a realty. Quit rewarding and satisfying to build it with all the trials and tribulations. Some time it comes out different than imagined, but it still ended up done. Now go on to a new one.
