A lot of this route from Manchester Victoria to Blackburn via Bolton has changed beyond belief in the past 39 years.

So interesting, as mentioned the changes in 39 years are remarkable. Gone are many old factories and mills including the huge Agecroft Power Station. The line between Manchester and Bolton is totally transformed with electrification and modern signalling.

I (unexpectedly) saw Leander on the main line in 2011. It really was stunning in LMS crimson with those burnished rims.

Those conrods are pure poetry on 6ft wheels used to see em heading out of Nottingham. over lady bay bridge on the curve a green jube with blood and custards pure class especially 6ft 9drivers and don't you love that hooter
