In the early 1970's this was fairly common, someone's would bolt a 100 plus horsepower motor on a jon boat and fly, and that was the first fast bass boats. A lot of times they would bolt a piece of aluminum to the back of the transom to strengthen it then add a couple of 2x dimensional lengthwise, and secure to the ribs and then bolt the motor up as high as far as possible and this was the first jack plate. You had to have a bud and a big cooler up front to keep the nose down as the boats were usually just fourteen to sixteen foot. They would run those old two blade brass or bronze props designed for hydroplanes quite often and they would shine that bronze with basso until the Prop looked like black hills gold. Every boat was raw white , green or aluminum. Things were simple in those days and anyone could afford to go fast. The ladies didn't expect a man to have a 50k boat and a 50k truck as there were lots of old Chevy, Ford and Dodge step side trucks running around and they would have the wood floor beds stained like fine furniture with a thumpy idle. Girls used to look at what a man could fashion with his hands out of nothing. One guy would paint another would be a mechanic and another would pinstripe and some would upholster and the ladies did that too. Tires were usually bias for trucks and a radio, well a nice one was AM- FM 8 trac Craig and they sold those at Otasco or Western Auto. Now it's just more money and that's greed.

Used to fish with a buddy that had a 115 Evinrude on a 15' Bumble Bee. You could feel the boat come out of the water and kick a little to the right. Had to be doing around 55 to 60. Doing 50 in a Jon boat and catch a 15 mph head wind gust would certainly create dirty diaper situation.

More pitch bad
@CooterTravenport4 жыл бұрын
Brandon S Yates Sr. More pitch will give you more speed at the same rpm because the blade travels a farther distance through the water than a lower pitch prop. You add pitch until you run almost redline without hitting rev limiter. I lake test boats almost everyday at the dealer I work at
@CooterTravenport4 жыл бұрын
super pickle that’s how we set em up at the dealer I work at. Add pitch until it don’t hit the limiter anymore and you will get the top speed and a good hole shot out of it
@EDCandLace4 жыл бұрын
Two issues first is as said already your way under proped at that weight/load... And your running way to wet... 4 or 5 degrees of positive trim and you will be really quick... It's super under propped tho as you are on the limiter even pushing that much water so it would carry weight really well. Prop pitch increase and properly trimmed it will run low 50s. If you are taking out 2 people plus your self and gear I would leave it as it is because it will carry the weight with very little loss in speed.... With 2 more people in the boat and some trim to get some boat out the water and i bet it would still run 41-42... It's always nice to have the prop to carry weight.. It really sucks when your boat is propped for a lighter load and then you load it down and just getting the hull to lift takes forever and you can't get any rpm... On our bass boats we always prop to carry two people a full gear load out and full live well and fuel.. It cost or 5 to 7mph on the absolute top when it's just one person, empty live wells, 1/4th tank of fuel and not much gear BUT it's always nice knowing that I have a prop that will respond quickly when the water vets big and blow out is unlikely when trimmed down and running tight creeks (high pitched props do not like pushing water when you bury the trim and the boats super wet... They only perform when your padded out and wot)... I may leave it as it is if it was me so i could carry people and gear really well...but if your looking for speed you need pitch and trim again its on the limiter anyhow but your running super wet... If you get the boat out the water some the ride will be far better at the back of the boat as well.... In this video it looks like you need about 3 to 4 degrees trim up based on how much hull is in the water at wot.
