Went for the $45 Amazon option and the pump is well built, easy to assemble and doesn't leak. Being 79 years old, this process is a little hard on my body and I had to give up with my tank on my Gamo Arrow only half filled. However, I found an electric dual voltage pump that pumps up to 4500 PSI on Amazon that was under $200, including taxes and shipping (Free). So I'll save my manual pump for a backup or when I want to see if I can use it to give myself a hernia....

Mine arrived today.....blown away with the quality and performance. I bought another after first use. I have three BSA Ultras, a compressor, 7 litre bottle and now two pumps. My two eldest grandsons borrow a rifle each when they visit. It now means they can take a pump each and go their own way. They are light and with the folding feet, compact to slip into a back pack. Look after them and I see a lifetime of service. Serving and repair however doesn't daunt me as a I was a Siebe Gorman BA and compressor technician and instructor before I retired. I do recommend a decent oil/water trap. You can buy and inline QR one for less than £20 anywhere.

Great video and thanks for your efforts. I am 75 yrs old and for something to do, I just bought a Umarex C02 to plink with. I love to squirrel hunt so I have been entertaining a mid-range break barrel. While researching guns I became aware of PCP's. I have never heard of them. That being said, I really like the idea of the PCP with a mag-type gun. My concern was the inconvenience o filling the gun. I certainly prefer not to invest in a compressor but was calculating a small tank to take to the local dive shop. I have seen the hand pumps and figured they would likely kill me. Watching you actually use one, I think I can handle it. So, your video has convinced me to go ahead and pull the trigger on an entry-level PCP I can squirrel hunt with. Thank You. I subbed BTW.

Oh! So it's normal for the pump to stay up after stroking. I mean, the black part you lift with the handle (yes I'm new haha!), once you're done pumping, remains a couple inches, perhaps a wee bit over an inch and half above the base, exposing the silver tube it rides around. Was the detail I was looking for, nobody mentioned it in any of the vids I watched, and was worried about my pump being defective. Just assembled it, now it's time to find where some tiny leak is, and voilá! Then wait for a nice day... haha! Anyway, thanks a lot for the vid mate, have a great one!

Yea. I paid totally €46 for my chinese handpump that I ordered from aliexpress for the use to fill my Sig Sauer Virtus 13ci PCP. Has worked well for me. Spare o-rings etc even came along. I did though put the pump onto an electrical pumping machine that I built. But itbhas served me well. I do clean and lube the lower external tube of the pump quite regularly - and sometimes I strip it apart to clean the check valve at the bottom, but I considerbit as plain maintenance to keep the pump going for a long time.. But overall I do personally think that a cheap handpump works basically as well as most more expensive handpumps (which are the same in build-class). I once did find online a Diana handpump to be identical to my pump - but the price was €199(national postages still excluded) instead of €46 (free intl shipping included)..

Appreciate. I’m going to get it as a backup- for that price, why not? I “ think” I stumbled into a pumping trick. Instead of doing a full travel pump motion every time, I will do maybe 3 quick, partial pumps from between about 3-8 inches( can feel pressure build up some), followed by a full travel pump. It seems to decrease the amount of full travel pumps by enough to make it worth it “ to me”. 🤷‍♂️😁 Cheers

@mrhalfstep
@mrhalfstep Ай бұрын
I'm glad the $45 option was competitive. More cheap means more new shooters to the sport. Always a good thing. Glad you made the content, but I think you did a disservice by showcasing your pumping style. In my own experience and based on the advice of long time shooters that I trust, if you pump more slowly and deliberately, with a brief pause at the top and bottom of each pump stroke, you will get a more complete transfer of air between 3 chambers within the pump and, ultimately, into the gun, resulting in far fewer pumps required. Less heat will be generated in the process and fewer rebuilds will be required. I'm guessing that this will be an even bigger issue with the cheaper pump. One other suggestion would be to hold your arms stiffer and squat and stand as you pump, rather than press down with your arms alone. As they pump to higher pressures, older and less fit shooters will find that letting their belly fat/weight do the work, by squatting, will made the pumping less taxing and my be the only way to get a complete fill on their gun.

That is one reason why the Airforce airguns and the Benjamin marauder are on my favorite list. On the Airforce the tank and gauge are the rear end of the rifles and on the Benjamin marauder the gauge is on the bottom between the trigger and foregrip. This keeps you alot safer than the having the gauge on the business end. For the people with the gauge on the dangerous end always remove the magazine and fire a shot into the dirt to make sure 100% that the barrel is clear. Airguns are potentially deadly especially in the event of an accidental discharge like a hard knock or drop. Be careful people.

Nice video, I'm going to look into the Orcair pump, just bought my first PCP rifle, where do you get a rebuild kit for the Orcair when needed? I see that it does come with one but once that is gone where do you get another one at?
@airshootist
@airshootist Жыл бұрын
You can probably just size the orings and pick them up at a local hardware store after that. Or simply buy a new hand pump since they are so cheap. A better idea is to grab a compressor since they are also very cheap nowadays and use the hand pump as a backup. I have multiple compressor reviews on the channel. My favorites right now are the Orcair Thunder and the ToAuto A3. I have links to both in the comments.

@@airshootist thanks for the reply, I did order the hand pump for now and I think today I have seen every video on compressors you have posted and added them to my cart on Amazon so I can look farther into them in the next few days. Did the Airforce pump do better cause it had help from a shorter hose smaller diameter hose ? hard to tell in the video. I keep a very short micro bore hose and a Edgun Ezfill on my tank to minimize air loss. Next video how many pumps from a hand pump to fill a 100 cf scuba tank... keep the videos coming!
@airshootist
@airshootist 2 жыл бұрын
You know, I was thinking about the hose volume, too. I think the Orcair came in first, with lets say 27 pumps. Being new probably helps. Then came the Airforce with 30 pumps, then the FX with 35 but the FX's bleeder was not fully in so it leaked a bit while pumping. So maybe they are all right around 30 pumps. All 3 are 3 stage pumps, not 4 stage. I one time pumped up a 68ci paintball tank to 3000psi from 0 just to see if I could. NEVER AGAIN

Can you not swap the gauge and the outlet hose around on the FX pump to allow you to see the pressure while pumping and give you better access to the bleed knob?
@airshootist
@airshootist Жыл бұрын
You can. If I recall correctly I partially stripped the threads like 15 years ago and swapped them because I think the gauge had longer threads so I could teflon tape it better and get it to seal. It's ancient history now, but good eye, it's only like that because of my own misdoings! Haha

I have been doing some research as I want to get into PCP from SSP and I read that you are supposed to wait a a second at the top and bottom of the pump stroke. Have you tried that to see if you can get away with less strokes?
@airshootist
@airshootist Жыл бұрын
Waiting is not necessary but you definitely want to make sure you go all the way up and all the way down for the most efficient stroke. And don't pump it like crazy in the summer without giving it a break, these can get a bit hot and perhaps melt a seal if you really beat on them. They are best suited for guns under 150cc, even though I got away with using them to pump a 490cc Airforce tank for over 15 years 🤣 I have rebuilt the FX and the Airforce pump more times than I can remember from all the use and they still are going strong

Save some money and build a autopump: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJelendjmd1re9U kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqiVq5eNm9aJlcU I was considering to buy a PCP, but didn't know the amount how much you need to pump to get a 200-300 bars filled. That simply killed the whole idea that you can have some relaxing shooting time, as if one needs to pump 200-400 times to get to rifle going, it is not worth it, unless you are really a hunting with it and need just a few shots per day. The idea of compressor just was not worth the cost, as you pay same as for the gun. And then you need to wait 20-40 minutes to get those filled. Building a own electric pump requires 1-2 pumps and you are quickly now in the cheap air compressor price range, but you should get it still faster filled. But you don't have the space saving with it, and likely not able to run it from a 12V battery if needed. So then comes the small scuba tanks, again costly and requiring to go filling elsewhere for price. But giving 2-120 fills, they can be good option for off-grid people, again for hunting purposes as you don't shoot so much. So if wanted to do some hunting, then use the pump. It will serve better than nothing else. If wanted to do competition shooting, then it is the air compressor. And for fun shooting where you put hundreds/thousands of pellets on weekend, then it is time to get the air tank.
