So I have done 24 Lavaflek test posts so we can choose a colour doe the dinner service I’m doing.
Then I got carried away with diffident designs on the Bud Vases and I have to say they are amazing. So please with the results.
Please go forward to the kiln unloading of you do not want to see the bed vases before and after.
Enjoy.

Hi Lois!! It was me that suggested you try the Palladium on the Snow and I'm so glad you tried it. I didnt put it on as heavy as you, I put dots on just as I saw you did before the firing. Mine came out as you said and I said, "Feathering". so I'll tell ya Ive got an idea I'm going to try and I will share a picture with you when I'm done. I will take a shot of the mug I made which you asked to see. I didnt see your message to me for almost 3 weeks after you posted it. Great load for you this firing and I have to say that you truly are a potter to be respected for the work you create and the top notch records and test tiles you take. I love seeing all your work and look forward to it every time Your fellow potter in Denver Colorado!!!

So so pleased you suggested it. I’ve made my son an orb for the garden. And we are doing the same for that. I was in a right panic when I put so much on the top with a pippet and nearly scrapped some off as I knew how much it runs. But the snow being a Celladon seams to hold it a lot better. The dots merged lively with the creeping. It was amazing. Then that made me try the bud vase with palladium and then other metallic glazes and fabulous. Very different colours for me and I loved them. Thankyou !!

Thanks for all these lovely combinations Lois. I was wondering if you post pictures of the pots with the glazes before firing them, so we can see how you layered and dripped? Also did you make your cookies or buy them, if so where ?
@LoisHook
@LoisHook 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Made my cookies. Some are slab rolled. Cut out using a round cutter Held between two layers of dry wall board until dry so they are flat the others I have followed Joe Thompson at Old Forge creations and made some that raise the pot up buy catch the glaze if need be. I was having issues with them sticking to the pot but recently I put kiln wash on them. 50/50 China clay and Alumina Hydrate (though check that). There are different recipes and it made a huge difference. If you tell me the pots you like at the time I can explain what I did. I did show some at the beginning this time and I think it helped people realise the work that goes into it.

@@LoisHook Thanks Lois. I just watched your explanation of the glazes you used on the vase, so great. Now I’m seeing that you have many more on this video and will take notes! I’ve been making my own cookies but think I should use cone 10 clay so they may last longer. Yours are professional looking . 🙏🏼

Hi Lois. I have a tan speckled clay and the combos I liked are Merlot and temmoku on the rim, alabaster and temmoku on the rim and the texture turquoise also looks great by itself, but my clay is similar to your maybe give you a different results, better to do more testing and see with colours your daughter in law likes the better 🤗
@LoisHook
@LoisHook 3 жыл бұрын
I have used many colours on the Lavaflek though not alabaster. Interesting when out. They chose the one I had sent a pick off iron lustre x2 and toasted sage x2. So result. I have videoed the colours outside and some are really nice.

Lois I read that black Magma can cause a color reaction on nearby pots. Have you found this happening I really love the look but can’t risk other peoples pots at the studio.
@LoisHook
@LoisHook Жыл бұрын
Not too much on other pots. More that the black magma lightens and becomes slightly brown and even bigger bubbles. But not so noticeable that it’s an issue.

How do you make your biscuits? Do you bisque fire them before using them for glazed pots?

Yes I would bisque then use. I also put shelf wash on them and that helped make sure they would not stick if the glaze ran. I hope that helped a bit.
