I have a Profit 1911 in classic black with a steel music nib. One of my favorite writers. Smooth with hint of feedback and great line variation for writing character. Cost $60 with shipping. In my opinion a $450 pen does not offer a sufficiently improved writing experience to justify the increased cost.

Ok, the prices depend a lot on the place you buy it. 45bucks for that ? thats like 80euro in europe. also the black luster is like 280euro from japanese shops. Overall Sailors are overpriced nowadays. Especially the 21k versions. Pilot and Platinum offers much better value.

By switching the nib on the clear version you've essentially compared the 14k nib with the 22k nib. Also you state that the $45 pen goes up more than twice in cost after the nib swap..so approx $95. I purchased a Sailor Pro Fit Light last month in Singapore for $60 with a fine 14k gold nib and not only is it great value for the price but a very pleasing writer

I always read it as “Pro-fit” as well, complementary to “Pro Gear”. I have a Profit Large with MF nib and a Profit Realo with M nib, and for grey market prices I do think it’s worth going up the line to those for the gold nibs.

I splurged and bought the Sailor Hiroshima Commemorative pen made with juniper wood. It was limited to 500 pens worldwide with only 70 allocated to the US market. It cost almost an astonishing $1000! I think it’s a very beautiful pen and uncommon looking as well, but honestly, as far as writing capability, there is no way to justify its excessive cost. It no doubt writes like any Sailor pen with a 21 karat gold nib in medium. What you are paying for is style. And in the case of my almost $1000 pen its limited edition may have some value. So my comments very much apply to the two Sailor pens discussed in this video. It makes little sense to compare the writing. It makes much more sense to compare the style. Personally, I can’t see anything special about either style. I would be looking for pens with much more interesting styles in those price ranges.

I have 2 Sailor Zoom nibs (but the 21k version). This is my favorite Sailor nib type because they have good flow for dry Sailor shading inks. Judging from the Yoseka Sailor nib comparison, the 21k is wetter than the 14k. So give the 21k zoom a try at a shop or from a friend; as it seems like the writing experience is better than the 14k zoom nib.
