Just scored one for $115 after shipping. Came with 8gb RAM and 500gb HDD. I had a spare 8gb ram from a previous optiplex, a 500gb SSD and a GT 1030 floating around. Using it as a music recording PC and some light gaming.

@@fazzy3038 GTX 1650, make sure it doesn't have a 6-pin. I put a 1650 in my 7040 and it works amazingly. Just look at the listing and make sure there's no extra power pins needed bc a small portion of GTX 1650 models need it.

I actually managed to find a really good gaming PC: Total cost is 365 dollars. I found a dell optiplex with an I5 3rd gen along with 8gb RAM, 240gb SSD all for 120 dollars. I also have 4gb ddr3 laying around. I also found a used GTX 980TI for 170 bucks which is equivalent to the GTX 1070 and only 30% slower than a 1080TI. Found a good quality 500W PSU for 70 bucks, 5 dollar mx4 thermal paste and I'm set for winter break! Bottleneck is quite minimal, too!

Because all I can play on is WiFi. No Ethernet cable access or anything here. If they aren’t WiFi enabled am I able to just buy an adapter or something and plug it in or what do I need to do? 4real? No ssd a ssd its a Great and cheap way to upgrade a pc. And if you go with a lower dell optiplex like with a i5 4400 or a i5 2400 or 2500k you wil safe much more money and be at 100 150$for the dell and then go with a new and safe psu for 40$ and a 120gb ssd for 25$ and you are at 215$ and 16gb ddr3 ram kit for 30to40 dollars then you are at 255 and you still have 20$ for a used harddrive with 1tb and 125$ for a gtx 1050ti or a 970or960 or a 1060 6gb. The pc have good storage. 16gb ram and a decent gpu and a Safe psu with 80+ for less money. I know its hard and its take some time but its worth it. And if you want you can use the 50$ for a decent looking case or more storage.

As someone who has built in and sold probably 50 optiplex 790, 390, etc etc sandy bridge ivy bridge, these optiplexes aren't worth the premium over their older counterparts. $450 will get you: Ryzen 5 1600 af NEW- $104.99(will sometimes jump to ~$130, in that case, get a used 1600AE on eBay for ~$90-$100 and a wraith cooler for $10) Used am4 motherboard - between $50(a320) and $75(b450) 16gb ddr4 8x2 3200 new - $55-$65 usually Used RX 580 - $100 600w power supply - as of writing ~$55 new (but we all know how those are right now, even used.) 500gb crucial p1 NVME open box(eBay) - $55, $60 new. Any case that fits your needs and budget, to stick to under $450, pick something cheap Pros: Upgrade path Faster parts for the money Cons: Not prebuilt Not gonna lie, I miss before the virus where I could buy an optiplex for like 50 bucks and snag a 1050ti off Facebook for another 50 and have a pc to sell for $250-$300 I think a 1650 super would've worked with this power supply. They have very efficient power supplies, and a single SATA connector can handle 75w, so I'd recommend a dual sata adapter and throw in a 1650 super. It'll be just fine. I'd love to see you guys test "jank" setups like that though!

You’re right, I just flipped a build where I got a ryzen 2200g and a320 combo for $60, $40 2x8 ddr4. Got a $1050ti for $60. Put $220 into a rig and sold it for $450 immediately because even low end Ryzen is more attractive than these Optiplexes.

I really enjoyed the video. It inspired me to look at what all is available now on ebay. Have you thought about doing a similar build with a workstation that comes with a larger power supply? The z240s have a stock 400w power supply and are similar price. I just bought a Dell T5810 with an e5-1650v3 and 32gb of ram for $300. Their powersupply's are either 425w or 685w and are easy to swap. I would like to see what you could do with a used workstation with a v3 or v4 zeon and a higher end graphics card. The e5-1620v3 is only around $35.

Not sure if any one will see this but has any one ran into the orange blinking light with those dell Optiplex or em I just that unlucky first day it came home came on fine but after I get some 16gb ram for it the sata to 6pin adapter for a gtx 750ti the power supply is 290w and a ssd I ran into the orange blinking light and nothing will turn on :(

@@Bawkr thank you for the reply I tried that with every slot and nothing no power or anything I returned it to the seller and got a different one this one I'm not running into any problems sep it won't let me use all 4 ram slots only the first 2 I think the 7020 only does 16gb anyway though which I have in it now in dual channel.

Leaning heavily toward HP mobo intel gen6 but the CPUs are pricey far as I can tell. So thinking 3rd or 4th gen xeon with 8 threads 4 cores. 3rd gen is definitely way cheaper ill make $50 by upgrading.

Hello guys, recently i just pick up optiplex 3040 mt and this pc making me stress with the gpu not working in fully potential. It's like the gpu running in 1.1 pcie lanes on the first boot and going back to 3.0 pcie lanes after i restart the windows for the second boot. Any idea how to fix this ? I also already tried to update the bios, windows and gpu driver. I am currently using core i5 6500, 16gb ram and gtx 1650. Help me please fellow optiplex user

I built a 3050 MT just like yours, upgraded the cpu to an i7-7700, added a Coolermaster i70c heatsink fan, a Zotac RTX 3060 12Gb with 32GB Ballistix DDR4 3200 and an SFX EVGA PSU with 24pin to 6 pin adapter for the motherboard connection to power it all. It plays everything I want at almost maxed out settings. Should get me by until 13th and 14th gen hardware comes down in price.
