that's because marketing terms like 1080p and 4k are poorly defined and poor metrics of quality. It doesn't take into account, luma/chroma, bit rate, bit depth, colour space, compression rate, etc. If a 1080p video maxed out all those aspects of video, 90% of your average viewer wouldn't be able to tell the difference between true 1080 vs 4k. Not to mention it makes little to no difference when you're watching them on a phone.

It's not that, GoPro videos really suck, people confuse size with actual resolution, heck full hd video took on my phone have the same or better actual resolution than 4k took on GoPro...I'm really disappointed, first time I don't do enough research before buying a product, and the noise reduction is AWFUL! It really takes away all the detail, I'd rather have some grain than a totally smudgy image.

@@TheArtofSimpleGolf depends on what you looking for, I have seen some KZbin channels running videos on an iPhone camera. Won't say it's the best but you won't have to purchase a new device just for filming. Separate mics are always better for audio.

As a Hero 9 owner I am severely disappointed with my purchase. Some times the camera will not connect to the app no matter what I do, frequently the footage will show a vertical line splitting the video right in the middle with diferent exposures for each. For 3 times now now I left the camera to charge overnight and when I picked it up to use it, it didn't charge. Wth Gopro, this is your 9th iteration of a camera, this is unacceptable.

Get on Ama zon and buy a little package of the fuzzy "dead cat" style mic covers, and they will completely take care of the wind noise issue. It takes 2 of them on the DJI, and they just stick on, over the little mic ports.

I received an Osmos as part-of-payment for a shoot I had done last fall. I was super giddy as that was the action cam I'd been looking at. We had a family vacation to HI coming up and I was excited to run it through its paces. I kitted it out with the ND filters I would be using, and we headed out a couple weeks later. On the 2nd trip out to snorkel, it died... In less than 10 feet of water, we had saltwater ingress. Swam it back to shore and opened up the closed battery compartment and water dripped out. Water was showing between the screens as well. The compartment had been properly closed and both lock indicators were showing locked when I opened it up because I very rarely forget to close electronic doors, so I was looking to see if I had forgotten to latch them. When I got back home I took it into DJI and they said that there was nothing they could do due to "Saltwater ingress". They told me that it had to be because I hadn't properly closed the door. After a couple of Google searches forum.dji.com/thread-191107-1-1.html , it turns out that many others have experienced the same exact scenario, and been told the same thing. Had I not used it on that trip while snorkeling, I probably would still be in love with it, but the whole experience left a horrible taste in my mouth. Even though they promote it as waterproof, in the fine print it states that it is water-resistant. If I had purchased a housing I would have been fine. Last week I picked up a Hero9 with a 64GB card, an extra battery, and 1yr of unlimited cloud storage for under $375 directly off their site. I do not like their software, but that doesn't bug me because I edit in Premiere Pro. So if you're gonna get it wet, wrap it UP!

DJI Action never failed me. It's always recording. No freezes like GoPro 9. And DJI has amazing HDR option. Don't get fooled by marketing bs. Get DJI Action. Or even 2 Osmo Action.

I have a GoPro Hero 8 and I'd prefer a flatter color pallet like the Osmo has. When you're color correcting in post, you want a flatter pallet. It's much easier to get the colors you want rather than trying to bring down saturation.

I've had the Osmo for about 2 years and I have been VERY pleased, especially since the last firmware update. The last GoPro I had was very buggy and froze all the time. GoPro has more bells and whistles, but I will stick with the Osmo.

The GoPro subscription is actually quite nice (cloud storage and the discounts, got $200 of accessories for $100) and subtracting the other goodies, the camera came out to be about $270.

I would think there is a problem with your Hero 9 Ben. I live in a extremely hot climate. Today used my Hero 9 and osmo action in 34 degrees Celsius and humidity 71% on the beach for around 50 minutes each. It was a bright day. Did not once have any overheating, freezing issues with either cameras. I'm not getting any glitch with the hero 9. You could also have a problem with the firmware too. I use pocket 2 in general scenario, and change to osmo action when come to challenging environment. I use mavic mini when needed. I used to own hero 7. I sold it due to freezing issue. I can't understand, why no action taken to solve it since hero 7. Yet still blaming the memory card causing the problem.

I've had 2 GoPro's break from water leakage in very shallow water. Guess they aren't as waterproof as they claim to be. Does the osmo action fog up a lot when you have it in a protective housing like the gopro's do?

Just got my Osmo Action 3 days ago. Was looking at the Hero 7 Black for $249. So happy with the Osmo Action for $199. No regrets at all. And now I see even the Hero 9 is $449 ? To me the Osmo Action still beats the Hero 9 at less than half the price. No freeze ups at all, and takes great 4k videos and pictures.

In Australia the DJI Osmo retails between AU$399- $AU499. I managed to snag a brand new GoPro 9 for AU$439. So far I've experienced none of the glitches other Hero 9 users have experienced.

I had never a frozen GoPro 9. The "only" issue that I have is the buggy touchscreen. Don't know what GoPro is doing there... I don't know if it's right to compare 5k30 vs. 4k30 with lights turned off, wouldn't be better to compare both in 4k30? Cause then I think GoPro is doing better (than 5k30), not sure if it can match OA. Still nice comparison!

action cameras are not good for night or low light videos. theyre good for outdoor videos. if you just want to do b roll, your phone would be enough. i did a comparison between a midrange phone and the osmo action and theyre very close in image quality. only difference is osmo action you get great stabilization, which can make it video look better. so first what are you going to use the camera for?

@@TheArtofSimpleGolf i watched the videos on your channel and the camera is mostly fixed. so your current setup is good. the only benefit to the osmo action or gopro is if youre moving fast like running you get stable footage. aside that its worse in dynamic range and low light. your iphone would provide better dynamic range. if you want a small camera with stable footage and better in low light then get the osmo pocket 1 or 2. that is better than gopro or osmo action or any phone in low light videos and also very stable. but even that, your phone would provide better daytime dynamic range. so based on your the content on your channel i honestly cant recommend the gopro or osmo action, or osmo pocket. im just giving you the pros and cons. gopro and osmo = stable footage if youre in action. but bad low light, good enough dynamic range. osmo pocket = good enough low light stable footage, good enough dynamic range, non removable battery like a phone but can be charged whilst in use. phone = bad low light good enough stable footage, good dynamic range. your dslr camera = good low light, good dynamic range, not stable unless you attach a gimbal.

I bought an 8 Black last year and returned it. Just bought a 7 Silver because it was in stock at Best Buy and returned it today! They are sooo unstable and regardless of the speed media I insert, I have issues with freezing, lagging, etc. I’m now waiting for my DJI Osmo Action that I got for the same price as the GoPro 7 Silver. Trying to decide which of these two cameras to get for a Costa Rican adventure. (Think ziplines, waterfall jumping, swimming, hiking, climbing, and more.) The glitching of the GoPro is really turning me off as is the weaker sound. However, the 5k video, better quality images, and smoother stabilization are attractive. The Osmo's HDR mode is really awesome too. The prices I am finding are $269 for the Osmo and $386 for the HERO9. (This includes 1 SD card, 2 batteries, and 1 handle each.) So with the GoPro being $117 more expensive, what do we think? Which one should I get?

Does the Osmo still get hot enough to cook an egg when you record for long periods of time? Sometimes I have to record for hours to get 30 seconds of action. I am thinking about trying to jump the GoPro ship again due to audio issues happening on my GoPro.

If you want an action camera that works all the time, every time then it has to be the DJI Osmo Action. The small penalty is you lose some features that the new GoPro Hero 9 Black offers. When will GoPro make a non-glitchy camera? 🤔

I do have a question which a lot of reviews never really address, the heating of these cameras. All my Akaso had terrible reactions when they got hot amongst other issues. Buying the Osmo and having it on within 10 minutes had it hot which was discouraging and I ended up returning it. I don't know if it was a defect I recvd but I basically hike with my cameras. My question is, outside of this review, when you had a long test on both cameras, did your Osmo camera overheat or heat up within 10 mins? Did it act up when hot? Power off randomly?

Been watching this channel for over a year, you put out really nice content. But we all know you will always choose a DJI Osmo product. You are and have been for a while biased against GoPro. Still love you for content.. but it’s GoPro for life!

no hes not biased. if you watch his gopro vs gopro videos he tells you which is best. even in this video he said the gopro has better quality, but the osmo is more affordable and doesnt have much problems.

Did the SD card come out? What did you do to make it come out? A stuck card seems pretty important to me.

GoPro released a firmware update on feb 25th that specifically calls out the vertical line fix.

I went out and got a DJI Action to work along side my Hero 7 and mostly replace it, the Hero 7 Black keeps overheating and shutting off without warning and it doesn't save the clip. The DJI lasts over twice as long on a battery, twice as long before it over heats and haven't had any issues yet.

My Go pros have served me well on my channel although I wish they were better at taking low light video. I use the Hero 7 Blacks and I would consider the Osmo Action but only if they have better low light video capability. Great review, maybe I will try the Osmo action and see how well it performs

Also consider the ONE R 1-inch mod, it's pretty slick in low-light with that larger sensor

All the Forums are full of reports about all the issues. Since years. There‘s no way, GoPros higher ranks don’t know about that. So there are two options. First one: They just don’t manage to solve the problems. Second: They don’t care. It‘s almost a wonder they still sell cameras.

I gave up with Gopro, constant freezing and crashes then eventualy stopped working all together. Got replacment and only lasted 1 week. Cant wait to get my DJI!

I just bought this camera today. I have been searching latest video on KZbin but they all were a year to 6 months old. I'm just happy I made the right choice and glad that I didn't buy the gopro.

When you spoke about the audio being filed separately you were doing slow mo. Does it only file the audio separately in slow mo? Also is it difficult to match the audio and video when uploading? I have never done editing before and don't know the first thing about that. Thanks for the great side by side comparisons to do, they are VERY helpful
