Saji is at another level as an Indonesian restaurant in Europe. Makanannya bener2 "feels like home but not at the same time". Berharap kalo suatu saat Saji bisa masuk Michelin Guide. Kudos for Saji! ☺

Indonesian serving our food to Danes? We’d better keep this under wraps from Michelle Santoso, or she might accuse them of being complicit in appropriating Indonesian culture and cuisine. Michelle - I noticed your comment on the Sobre Masa episode and wanted to respond, but I'm having trouble posting my reply directly in that thread. I'm sharing my thoughts here instead: "Well, well, look who appeared out of nowhere. Are you the cultural watchdog summoned at the mere mention of appropriation? Oops, my bad-boogeyperson! LOL. Oh, please. Now you're lecturing us on cultural sensitivity, deciding which chefs are "respectful" of cultures and which ones aren’t? That’s rich. For all we know, your whole identity might be a blend of different cultures-Indonesian-Chinese roots, Hebrew and Sanskrit names, all while absorbing Western woke ideas and serving Western-style dishes in your restaurant. And suddenly, you’re an authority on Palestinian cuisine? Perhaps even using their culture to elevate your own reputation? See? Anyone can play this game of cultural judgment. It just shows how complex and subjective these discussions really are. When we rush to criticize others, we often miss the contradictions in our own positions. Instead of trying to be the judge of cultural authenticity, maybe we should focus on fostering understanding and respectful dialogue. Look, Bu, None of us hold the monopoly on cultural truth. Everyone has a layered background, and that’s why we need to approach these conversations with empathy and nuance, not quick judgments. Thoughtful engagement with other cultures can lead to learning, appreciation, and cross-cultural understanding-when done respectfully. While it’s essential to recognize cultural insensitivity, it’s just as important to take a step back and understand the full context before jumping to conclusions. By avoiding hasty judgments and name-calling, we can create room for meaningful conversations about cultural exchange, respect, and how culinary traditions evolve in our interconnected world. That’s how we make it a better place."
