Whats up my man? This is Mike from Saint Charles Missouri (U.S.A.) I am a 53 year old semi'retired carpenter/construction worker and just found your channel when searching for video's about the old's "455" ! I used to have a 1970 "442" with the 455 cui. 400 turbo trannie w/shift kit dual exhaust! Watching your video brought back many fond memorie's of me and my garage and all the hard work I put into that old car! When I first got the car the engine was smoking burning oil, rod's were banging and was in real bad shape! I was only 18 at the time and I decided to rebuild it in my spare time while managing a wife and a year old son! I had alot of responsibilitie's at that time in my life and my new found car and everything I had planned for it was my way to escape a little bit everyday and get away from the daily grind! I totally rebuilt that old beast from scratch with the tool's I had and a Chilton's Manual and that little garage attached to the house I lived in, it was so small that you had to go outside to change your mind lol! 😆 Those are some real good memorie's and a great learning experience! I remember when I was ready for the initial first start after I had dropped the finished engine back into the car and my adrenaline was pumping hard! When I turned the key over and that monster roared back to life I was on top of the world !!! That car was violent, it ran like a striped ass'ed ape, I got my fair share of traffic ticket's too, but I had alot of fun with all that horsepower !!! Just wanted to say thanks for your video and I'll be looking forward to any video's you make on the "442" in the future! Peace my friend!

I was having a hard time getting headers as I first put this together during Covid also the header selection for this swap is minimal! Thornton makes a great shorty header called Thornton w z manifolds! I’m running 1965-74 Olds Cutlass 442 W-30 Dual Exhaust Manifolds WZ GM 402294 402295 and they fit really well was able to do a true dual exhaust with them and they flow a ton! CHEERS

I am curious, as i will be doing the exact same swap in my 1988 cutlass supreme.... what transmission are you mating that to? Mine has the Th200r4 which will explode under the torque of the 455. I have a th400 on deck to be installed. did the 1985 cutlass 442 come with a more rugged transmission? additionally, did your 442 come with the 8.5" rear?
@ThemRoofBoys3 жыл бұрын
The 442s came with more of a factory performance version of the 200r4 they have larger valve body and heavier clutches also a 8.5 rear & 373 gears! Im using the factory trans and rear end for this set up in the car it will be a rowdy around town car with this set up running Goodrich radial street tires it will just blast rubber to the ground and spin the wheels before it will ever break the trans or rear end! Hard launches on slicks or drag radials will def break something but likely will break a stock 400 and rear end aswell! i want to maintain 4 gears in this car! Once I decide to take it further I will do a 700r4 and build a roller motor CHEERS
@andrewmillar61592 жыл бұрын
@@ThemRoofBoys hey man, thanks for that reply. I had one more question. Were you able to use the original position for the factory motor mounts? Or did you have to move them to fit the 455? Im tempted to toss this 455 in and mate it to my factory tranny for some gentle driving.
