Jerry, I've built, repaired and modified guitars as a hobby since I was 18. (47 years or there abouts) I have spent hours at the elbow if Kerry Char of Char Lutherie's and Nick Kuckick of Franklin guitars. I owe them both a debt if gratitude for all I've learned. Both these builders are world class and both use different methods. After binge watching your videos during my period of unemployment, I am very impressed with your build and repairs. Thank you for all you've taught me, and your humor while sharing your secrets. To your trolls, I say, "try it yourself," it ain't easy. Now as to the arthritis and age, I'm there with you. Now that retirement is a reality, the body just isn't willing but I plan to spend more time with the six bangers and less at construction sites. I really hope you're able to find a solution, it would be sad to lose such an able artisan and artist!

I play guitar and I build synthesizers, but I have no particular interest in guitar building. However, I find your channel just incredibly entertaining. This 12-string build series is my binge TV right now. I just love how you approach problems like an engineer, using your knowledge and experience to find workable and practical solutions to all the little problems that arise (I'm also an engineering professor). I also have very little interest in country music, but I really like the songs that you play over your videos, especially the plaintive little mandolin melody that you use as an opener. I hope you get some relief from your persistent arthritis.

Rick from Mass-One thing you might try for arthritis pain is cbd salve that also contains the thc. I don't know if dispensaries near you sell it but you can make your own with coconut oil, shea butter, bee's wax beads and a 1/4 ounce of canabis buds. Bake the buds in the oil for and hour and 1/2 then strain out. Mix the rest of the ingredients together and add some essential oil if you want to (mint, lavender,etc.). When it cools it should solidify. Rub it on your hands and massage it in.

Greetings Mr. Rosa; from the looks of thing, the shavings stored in alcohol or some solvent that can be used with paints/dyes would be enough to extract the color, just some heat cycles or sitting for a week (or more) should give you a very nice tint (and fused with alcohol possibly a fragrance)

Jerry, More than a few guitar makers are mounting their trust rods in acoustic guitars with the adjustment through the sound hole. @brad429483 жыл бұрын
Pau Brasil (or 'Pernambuco') is a different species altogether, but it does look a little similar in colour. Padauk mostly comes from Africa. I've used Pernambuco for bridges, and I've seen it used on fingerboards occasionally, but it's seriously heavy! I believe it is still the wood of choice for violin bows.

Your 90% chance of carving the wrong direction reminds me of the chances of wiring a 3-phase motor the correct direction the first time. The electrical engineer who just sits at a desk will claim the odds are 50-50 but people with tools in their belts know better. The motor has 3 wires so your chance of getting the right one is 1 in 3. The terminal block has 3 screws so the right one has a 1 in 3 chance of being chosen, bringing us down to 1 in 9. Now there are 2 wires and 2 screws, bringing the odds down to 1 in 18 then 1 in 36. Now there is no choice because the last wire goes under the last screw. Therefore the chance of getting it wrong are 35 out of 36 or 97.2% Since numbers don't lie, that desk jockey must have been wrong. This was explained to me by an old and grizzled electrician more than 6 decades ago. I thought he was kidding until I worked the numbers for myself.
