I would not manually force the lid open and close thats how you can destroy the motor

That and any gears or brackets inside. Force it down manually if you want to risk breaking the bin

We still haven't change the battery yet , had been 4 or 5 months so far. :-)

@@beyond6454 thanks for your response. my bench top where the bin will go underneath overhangs at 90cm high so it needs to be less than that with the lid open, would you say the bin is total 86cm high with lid open?

@@96watts1 its acually my bench top has the same height as yours so when I demontrated put under my bench top with fully open still have few inch gab. Lets say it looks perfect to me. :-)
