COP29
Well COP29 has finally wrapped up and richer countries have promised to put more money towards helping poorer countries fight climate change. So how much have they said they'll spend? $460 billion, that's how much COP29 countries have agreed to spend yearly until 2035. It'll mean richer countries will put in more money to help poorer nations prepare for the impacts of a warming climate, shift away from fossil fuels and respond to loss and damage caused by climate change. While some welcomed the deal, others weren't as happy about it. In fact, some developing countries were pushing for more than $1 Trillion dollars a year. So reaching a deal was a bit of a challenge and some representatives from places most impacted by climate change even walked out of the negotiations in frustration. The UN says the agreement didn't go as far as it was hoping for, but it's a step in the right direction if all countries deliver on what they've promised.
GUS THE PENGUIN
Remember Gus? He was the first emperor penguin to ever be recorded in Australia and now he's on his way home. Gus was found in Western Australia at the start of the month more than 3,000kays away from his home in Antarctica. He was pretty weak and malnourished, but now after spending 20 days recovering and regaining his strength he's been released back into the ocean!
EMMA McKEON RETIRED
Yep. Australia's greatest Olympian Emma McKeon has shared on Instagram that she is ending her competitive swimming career. McKeon won 14 medals across three Olympic Games, including a record six gold medals. Many sporting greats have left comments congratulating her on her outstanding career.
WALLABIES
Now to Scotland, where our Wallabies' dream of a spring tour grand slam has come to an end. Things started off alright, with the opening score coming from a penalty goal by Noah Lolesio. But Scotland quickly made a comeback. Aussie debutant Harry Potter was a bit of a wizard, ha see what I did there, and also scored a try but it wasn't enough with Scotland taking the win 27-13.
F1
Over to the Las Vegas Grand Prix. While Mercedes driver George Russell won the race all eyes were on Redbull's Max Verstappen who scored enough points to take out the entire championship!
CHINA GAMES
Finally, to a national sporting event in China where athletes competed in a range of traditional sports. Some of the events include coconut tree climbing stilt racing and board-shoe racing.
RUBBER DUCK CHURCH
A church in Madrid has opened it's doors to the public. But it's not just any church, it's a rubber duck church. The "Paticano", which is a mix of Vatican and ducks in Spanish, is a special church where comedian Leo Bassi organises weekly masses where they discuss current affairs while quacking.
MONKEY FEAST
An annual banquet has been held in Thailand for monkeys that roam the ancient temple of Lopburi. The little fellas are believed to bring good fortune, so every year they're offered fresh fruit and vegetables.
ROBOTIC DOG SLED
Robotic dog sled rides have become a bit of trend at this ski resort in China. When they're not pulling sleds they're helping out with deliveries, first aid and security patrols.
