Is there any serivice interval on these pumps or do you only get them serviced if the break? Do machine operators keep spares of them to limit downtime?
@AreaDieselService3 ай бұрын
Good questions. Some pumps have self contained lubrication oil and they do have a service interval. I've never seen anything from a manufacturer calling for a proactive pump overhaul. I have seen some major fleets and government entities calling for a pump swap at certain miles or hours. And we do have some customers who stock a spare pump or turbo if the engine is in a mission critical operation. Power backup, water supply, emergency vehicles, etc.
@rimmersbryggeri3 ай бұрын
@@AreaDieselService You guys do great work but I imagine you have alot of it so I guess it could take some time to get you pump back. If you are peing paid by the hour as a machine operator a couple of weeks downtime could put a pretty serious dent in your earnings so I think I would prefer to have a backup pump for piece of mind.

Is the pressure side of this pump aka the "head" side with the injector line outlets connected to the governor body section of the pump at all? I have a pump with stuck rollers from sitting and I was thinking of shooting some PB blaster into the inlet so I can try to move the machine before my reseal kit arrives.
@AreaDieselService9 күн бұрын
Good question. The governor operates on the metering valve. The metering valve resides between the transfer pump and the pumping elements inside the head. It meters the amount of fuel that the pumping elements are fed thus controlling the fuel delivery.
@Zebbarooski29 күн бұрын
Was that 515 or 518 Loctite on the gasket?
@skylinefever3 ай бұрын
This is interesting stuff. When you paint these fuel pumps, how do you choose the color? I like what you do. I never had any good experience with rebuilt parts that were carelessly sprayed with cheap flat black. I did not know that Delphi bought Lucas. People who restore British classics have some jokes many Lucas electrical parts. I suppose each company has winners and losers. I have seen a lot of those auto part companies merge and split. Who stole who's tech? Didn't much of this all start with early Bosch pumps?
@AreaDieselService3 ай бұрын
The manufacturer normally calls out the paint requirements in the bill of materials and test plan documentation. And we make note of what it looked like when it came in. Sometimes the customer will make a specific request in that regard.

Looks like you guys are learning to get your "seals" illustrated properly by following #FarmCraft101's lead. A majority of the noise diesel engines make is from the fuel pump.
@ColinLennard2 ай бұрын
For the guy putting that pump together. (I think it is the rotter end) It is to do with the lining up. You took off that (hot cross bun) part went & got your box of lots took out 1 put it in & said "that's better". I take it that you have a box of lots encase you have to look for 1 that matches up yet you only took the first one & it matched. Why do you need a box of lots if the first one you pick matches. Or was it just luck that you didn't have to spend hours finding 1 that matches.
