I have an 01 ram 3500 v10 4wd. It currently has a Jasper rebuilt trans which is on its last legs. I was assuming it had a 48re in it. Is there an easy way to tell, externally, whether its a 47re or a 48re? If it's a 47re, can it be replaced, and is it advisable to replace it with a 48re?

Is this kit something that could be used in a horsepower build that is 800+ I think I've worn out my directs and I'm going to do a refresh and looking at kits.

Yes, we use this kit in builds ranging from 400-1500 horsepower. To clarify, the clutches are only as good as the clamping force supplied by the valve body though. If you were to run this kit with a stock valve body, you can realistically expect it to support stock horsepower levels.
