Another great video. It’s a pity you didn’t have more time to explore the bays near Ardnamurchan point. Spent many years sailing in this area with my late father.

That's such a beautiful part of Scotland. We loved Tobermory and are returning there next May. Good to see the Old Forge. It's still on our list. Great video. Cheers!

Thanks Craig! The Old Forge is great and now after the refurbishment even better. The kitchen wasn't just open when we were there but that should be sorted now.

Lovely video as usual. I love Oban, especially the shack on the waterside. Lovely scenery and really informative re the blown fuse. Happy sailing.

We anchored in more or less that spot in Loch Aline. We are a little confused that our Bavaria (an older model than yours) does come with an anchor trip rather than a fuse. Having said that, when we "blew" the trip it was two months before we found it 😄 That is because we thought we had wrecked the windlass and it took us that long to work ourselves up to replacing such an expensive component! When we found the trip and flicked it the other way and everything worked.... we went out and bought a bottle of wine to celebrate 😆

Well, they probably found another few quid to economise towards cheaper production with a fuse… But then, we are still super happy with our Bavaria. And once you know the devil, it‘s usually an easy fix. I bet you were super relieved when you flicked the trip…

Love your Scottish videos but, and I don't want to nitpick but the true most westerly point is actually a few hundred meters further west and goes by the name Corrachadh Mòr. This point is located on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula itself, just over a kilometer south of Ardnamurchan Point.

Thank you for watching and for your comment. Of course you are right. It’s more westerly by 0.04‘. And it’s even marked by a cairn. Every day is a school day…

Hello again Sailing Polaris. I was wondering what you would recommend for cruising guides/pilot books for sailing around Scotland. I thought I noticed a brief glimpse of the CCC guides. Did you like and would you recommend them? Did you buy the Cruising Scotland book, or all of the individual CCC sailing directions for western Scotland? Sorry for so many questions!
@sailingpolaris
@sailingpolaris 11 ай бұрын
Hi @LifeFourPoinzZero, no worries. We use the CCC sailing directions and we like them. Didn‘t buy the Cruising Scotland book but then also we have a subscription for Explore.Imray which gives you the content of all Imray books online and further info from the Cruising Association and the Navily app. An extremely valuable tool for the west of Scotland are the Antares Charts (unofficial, so your own judgment is required) on the Memory Map for All app. Quite a lot of sources but together they give a great picture.

I love it up around there , Tobermory is famous for its sunken Galleon and also for its whirlpool with the story of the Norwegian prince.

Anchor windlass shouldvhave a rcd fuse so you can just flip it back on when it blows due to overloading
@sailingpolaris
@sailingpolaris Жыл бұрын
Would be great if all of them had. Sadly, on our Bavaria that‘s how it‘s wired from factory… I expected to find a thermo-magnetic breaker as suggested by the windlass manufacturer, but that‘s not fitted…
@SVSeaChange
@SVSeaChange Жыл бұрын
I would have just put a piece of wire across the fuse! And no manual option on the windlass? That's unfortunate.
@sailingpolaris
@sailingpolaris Жыл бұрын
No manual option on the windlass, no. You‘ll need quite a wire to withstand 100A and proper terminals, albeit just for a short distance… again, not something we carry on board…
