To get around the city I would recommend the Lothian bus dayticket £4 (Jan 2019). Consider a trip to Forth Bridges at South Queensferry (number 63 bus from Gyle), then maybe Cramond Island (41), Roslin Chapel (15, 37, 140) or even a trip along the coast to Seton Sands (26). You can use on Edinburgh Trams (ticket not valid on/off airport stop). Dayticket valid from 6am - midnight. Use early for best value. Enjoy your trip!

Check out The Witchery for somewhere fancy to eat/stay. If you’ve got kids or want something fun try Camera Obscura. For amazing fresh mussels/ seafood try mussels inn - but make sure you book ahead, the locals fill it up pretty quick. If you’re a Harry Potter fan try Diagon House on bank street and The Elephant house cafe where JK wrote the books ( really touristy but still cool). If you like hipster cafes try Lovecrumbs and for a good pub try the halfway house which is hidden down an alleyway on Bank street which is pretty small but serves amazing Cullen Skink! Then try out the Ensign Ewart pub for great live music 🥰

If you like treasure trove shops, go to Aquarius on Bread and Spittal Street. Cheap food go to Wings, special dinner or lunch, Rhubarb at Prestonfields or The Dome on Grorge Street, history trip Castle or the Real Mary Kings Close and St Giles Cathedral, nice lunch or posh afternoon tea, the Collonades at the Signet Rooms (this is the very best afternoon tea you will ever have in your life...its really special). Music and drinks, the Ghillie Dhu at Rutland Place at the end of Princes Street/Shandwick Place, or cocktails at Tigerlily on George Street.

The Dean Village neighbourhood does not have a canal running through it! It’s an ancient river called ‘The Water of Leith’. Big difference! Also, Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano and it’s not ‘at the edge of the city’. It’s a few hundred metres from the very centre of Edinburgh.

I would highly recommend Craigmillar Castle an old castle where Mary Queen of Scots once lived you may recognise as its one of the filming locations for a number of scenes in Outlander & The Outlaw King. The National Museum of Scotland It's a great experience and it's free. (Although its nice to leave a small donation while leaving) As for bars and Clubs I would recommend The Banshee Labyrinth (Niddry Street) (one of the most haunted pubs in Edinburgh, it has it's own Cinema, a pool table room, 3 different bars? a small concert room for bands or karaoke nights. Stramash (Cowgate) a newer music venue rebuld as an old church that was rebuilt within the last 10 years after a large fire but it still has a very rustic and historical feeling. Its got a great mix of music from Blues, Folk, Rock and country with a theatre style stage and an upstairs balcony. Whistle Binkies ( South Bridge) if you want a more alternative small rock venue. The Stand Comedy Club is brilliant for a night of laughter, fun and a few drinks. You can discover a new up and coming talent or you could be suprised with a famous comedian trying out new material before going on their next big tour. Get their early as it's a small venue and seats go fast.

I know the place very well - I head there tomorrow - and there are many great locations within walking distance of the Royal Mile that never /seldom get featured...like the Georgian architecture of the New Town, the Stockbridge Colonies, the residential areas on the south side.
