Lovely to see your daughter in the background. Was in York about 6 years ago at the racecourse to see Boyzone. There was a huge thunderstorm and lightning cracking over our hotel the night before our concert. Tom Jones was supposed to play that night but cancelled his show. Had a Quick Look around the town, wish we’d had more time to explore. X

York looks really nice and it seemed clean. I live in Nottingham and the place is scruffy and shops are quite disappointing, how things have changed in the last 5 - 10 years and since the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre was demolished shops in that area are definitely struggling 😢. Aww loved this vlog. We have just been to York this weekend! We stayed at the Auction Centre and bused it into the centre. It was extremely busy but we knew it would be. We also bought the skeleton wind chime that was behind you on your vlog. 😊

The Shambles is probably the best preserved medieval street worldwide...it's written in the doomsday book of William the conqueror 1086..many of the buildings are dated to the fourteenth and fifteenth century -1350-1475...bit of googling there init😉i do love York's history and have visited many times-thanks for the trip down memory lane..many happy returns mark init....

The Kings Arms floods on a regular basis I used to work for the company that owns it Samual Smiths once the flood waters have receded they can open the pub with minimal damage damage the floors are flagged all furniture is lifted and and back to business as usual … it’s so busy in summer that the manager apparently has to bank all monies twice a day.❤

Hi Lisa and Mark, many thanks for the recommendation of the cross keys car park. We have just spent 3 nights in the same spot you were parked, and the meals and staff of the pub were superb. Only issue we had on arrival 18th Feb, was carpark was rammed at about 1400hrs, 3 motorhomes to the left of where you were, and rest of carpark full of cars (footy) on tv😮.only space we could get in was where you were. i've lived in york nearly 20 years,used to love going to town for a few beers but don't bother now. the council don't want disabled and York residents there,they just want tourists and day trippers.sad times.

In the York Minster cathedral North Yorkshire, the furniture has mouse carved on one side of things from Kilburn north Yorkshire for years & you can climb up to the roof

I went to York and the Shambles’s a few years ago. I looked into the history of the Shambles, apparently most of it dates back to the 1400’s, it even got a mention in the Doomsday book in 1086, so something must have been there before the 1400’s. Obviously loads of restoration has been done over the years, but I was assured apart from repairs and restoration nothing was actually changed to any extent. So even though a lot of American tourist may think it’s like a fake Disney fantasy tourist attraction, it’s not.

York, expensive, both in and out of season, some places are reasonable, but it does flood every year, and there is a wonderfull walking tours by a few people also the huanted walking tour, I went on the one along the city walls and yes you end up by the city gate, there is also a well know tale of roman soldier ghost, belive what you will . The vikings also are part of the histrory, and there used to be a viking centre jorvik I belive...

The shambles comes from the 14th / 15th centuries ..before that it was mentioned in the Doomsday book 1086 … so it’s fairly old!

Just looked it up the shambles was mentioned in the dooms day book and is over 900 years old dating back to the 14th century. It probably looks fake and new because it is so well preserved. Xx😮😮😮😮❤❤ liz.
