My grandfather died when I was 9 or 10 years old. Little did I know at that time what he did for this country. He was Omaha Beach 6 days after the main assault. He wrote in his journal that they were still bringing the dead off the beach. He was a lieutenant and he had an aid that was under his command. A German mortar shell landed and he watched his aid get blown apart by the mortar. Shrapnel teared into his leg and he was no longer able to fight. Don’t remember the exact date that this happened but he received the Purple Heart. I now thank every veteran both old and new each chance I get. Because treading my grandfathers journal taught me of the courage and bravery these men and women of back then and in current times have to lay their lives on the line for the freedoms we have in this country. God Bless our veterans and thank you for everything you have sacrificed in the name of Freedom.

My great-grandfather, who died in 1945 during the liberation of Poland, my great-grandmother received only a medal for bravery and a letter in which she told how he died, and my grandfather only remembers how he ran after the truck in which my great-grandfather was being transported and taken away to war, his older brother and uncle were in the same truck, and he ran and shouted after him: Dad, take me with you to war! Only my grandfather's brother returned from the war, who after the capitulation of Germany was transferred to the war with Japan! and participated in the defeat of the Kwantung Army, he returned home only 7 years later!

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. I have no words to describe their sacrifice to save our freedom..they could be billionaires, scientists, teachers, and farmers if they wanted but they sacrificed their lives for our freedom 🇺🇲🦅

If they saved Europe, then why is it that Europe is experiencing everything Hitler warned us about, which was also outlined in the 1925 book Practical Idealism? If you think Europe was saved then you must not have the ability to identify anything that's going on. Keep eating up the Comintern propaganda.

It’s now our job as humans parents and Americans to take up that mantle of respect morality and pride to teach as many people as we can reach with our words how brilliantly strong our fathers and grandfathers have been for us as their children and comrades. Let not one mind go untouched with the knowledge of what was done in those times so that when we are asked by our children we can say that we are the descendants of warriors for freedom and honor. My mother’s dad was in the vacant German guard towers watching Jews barely hanging on to life being evacuated by the US Army out of concentration camps all around Germany. My fathers dad worked to invent a turret camera that allowed our bombers to see their bombs hitting targets eliminating the need for a second flight to confirm hits then when the Korean War started he kept our fly boys in the air as a mechanic on the many aircraft we flew there. I have some great color photos my dad scanned from slides of my papa in front of his hanger with planes he was working on during the war. When I asked why there weren’t any of him in WWII he said he didn’t think to take a camera. Then during Vietnam my dad worked on F-4 Phantoms and later worked on the blackbird. I come from an amazing line of great and intelligent men. I am proud every day to be a part of their bloodline. I have all 3 of their service photos on my mantle at home. While my father is the only one of them left now I still feel their presence in my life every day. And I thank them in my own way for being who they were and doing what they did for me and the rest of our great country.

@Drialeth5 жыл бұрын
@Jack Stucki First of all, thank you for your service. Second, many American soldiers were not involved in such actions, and although what you say is true, most German citizens we're not killed when they encountered American troops. The reason we fought WWII was to defend ourselves from the Japanese and help defend France, Great Britian, and other European countries from Hitler's reign. If we lost the war, then the freedom of the American people is in danger. Most soldiers who were sent to fight were fighting with the mentality that we must defend our freedom, and the freedom in Europe. To call soldiers who fought in WWII "Savage" is a misrepresentation. These men were sent to a battlefield after being drafted. They fought against a military that broke many rules of war, such as chemical warefare, killing citizens, etc. WWII was not mainly firebombing citizens, and when it did happen, it was the USSR doing such actions. Also, what branch if the military were you in and how long have you been in it?
@Drialeth5 жыл бұрын
@Jack Stucki England and France declare war on Germany because Germany kept invading smaller countries, and would obviously invade France and then GB. Even if Germany did not use chemical warefare, they still broke rules against humanity and many Nazis who had higher ranks and committed mass murder are still being tried for their crimes. When people hear about the war in Afghanistan, some say stuff like "oh the military killed some civilians in bombings" and other stuff. And with all of these factors and stuff in mind, we have to really think about it. Also, we had to go to war with Germany because of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, who, after declaring war on Japan, we were declared war on Germany. Once already, we interpreted a message that Germany tried to send to Mexico asking for Mexico to attack the US, ofcourse, Mexico did not, but it goes to show that Germany was already trying to attack America, but knowing the power of our military, did not want to fully get involved. Are you trying to say we should not respect WWII veterans, most of which did not commit war crimes? What are you trying to say?
@Drialeth5 жыл бұрын
@Jack Stucki I can see what you are saying, and although I don't agree with half of what your saying, the outcome of the war is not who won, but what is left.

My great grandfather was declared 4F for being 100% color blind, drafted shortly later, he fought in the Pacific as a B-29 ground crew mechanic in the 504th bomb group on the B-29 the Sitting Pretty, I have pictures from him of the Marine cemitary on Okinawa, I have pictures of ground teams across Tinian, pictures of the Enola Gay, the sights to be seen across there in black and white as he saw them, his unit was having a get together back at Tinian, he said, "I have seen all I want of that Island". After the war, he was about to be sent to Korea, instead got shuffled to the corps of Engeneers to be in the rebuilding effort, he became an officer and was in charge of the rebuilding, my grandmother was raised there in a chateau., he never spoke about the military, it was clear that his service haunted him till his death.in the hospital. He had the misfortune of being paired with a very ditsy Japanese Nurse who asked him what he was doing on Tinian Island. He stayed in to retire Brigaier General, Dan Brownly Sargent.i was fortunate to get to know him a little as a kid, I miss him so much, my grandmother said he cried tears of joy when he found out i wanted to serve in the military. Shortly after he died i nearly died from appendicitis, started getting in shape, bad car wreck, the chiropractor said I shouldn't have been able to walk, re-alignment therapy,another car wreck, re-alignment therapy, then 4 years ago I was crushed between 2 cars and died 9 times on the operating table, now I'm training again to enlist. I want to see the places that he saw, I wish I could speak to the people he served with, I pray for all those who died and thank them every day for their sacrifice.
