Blade etch, to me is part of the finish. You got some gunk on the spring. It’ll wipe off. You’ve got to give the mirror Polish to Case. No doubt, part of the price is the Tang Stamp! My basic is the Case typically is three or four times the price. Also my experience is they do last longer and do hold an edge longer that RR, and are less likely to Lose a shield. And I agree 100% test the pattern on a budget brand before you shell out big money on a Case or GEC! Some of the older Rough Ryders are keeping up with inflation! So are even exceeding inflation.

Thats a great looking knife the spear point blade chrome vandiam steel the burnt amber bone & the etched indian chap in the canoe all very nice. Blade centering a little off for what i class as a premium knife but all in all thats a fine knife i like it a lot.. Nice video William i like the price comparison brings it all in to perspective for value for $$$....Ref blade centering i was just thinking it has two blades so maybe its spot on , i'm more used to single blades , how does centering work for two blades ....
@WilliamsKnifeLife2 жыл бұрын
Thank you JP. For myself, as long as the blades don't hit the liners, I don't care about the blades being centered.

That model knife was my first Case. I really love my example. Yours is another beautiful example. I like the canoe pattern, it’s one of my favorites. I agree with you that it’s probably better to try a Marbles or RR first when you just want to see if you like a particular pattern. I have been lucky, I have always bought my Case knives online and have not inspected them first or asked a retailer to inspect them for me before they were shipped. I have to work tomorrow, I think I may have to bring a canoe!

Hello William. Beautiful knife. My favourite traditional in my collection and the most expensive is an A Wright and sons Sheffield made lambsfoot. Unfortunatly it has a very noticable carbon inclusion in the blade. Does that make it a bad knife? Not for me, i love it and that fault changes nothing. It cuts, it looks good, and it makes me happy. All the best.

Looks like you have nice example of a case canoe. I noticed that Case knives tend to be slimmer in thickness than their China counterparts on average. The blades are slimmer also in many Cases too. China models have more available new models and are more affordable. You can buy pearl and abalone China made knives that use these cover materials. They are quite nice until you see ones in the same style of knife with premium materials. There is a difference and the price is much more. It just depends on how picky you want to be. You should be pickier if you pay more and expect more too. When steel is polished to a high polish defects show up better than ones not polished to a higher level. Most China models are not polished as much as Case models. Some GEC models are also not polished as shiny as Case models either. You can polish most any knife model to the same high finish if you want and they shine up as good as a Case does. However it just requires more work and time to put a mirror finish on any knife. If you would have got a crappie one you can just return it for a refund and get your money back.✨🦖✨💰

Thank you Gizmo. The thinness of the Case canoe was the first thing I noticed & I like it. In my limited experience with Case, I think they are great knives. The quality control issues people have had with them is the main thing that kept me from buying them for so long. Now, I'm not too worried about getting a bad one.

The Case canoe is one sweet knife, loving that blade etch. It made me think me of my experience with the premium Rough Ryder Reserve Kayak. My review of the Kayak I received: Build - solid and heavy, good transitions, and both blades are locked in place when open, no wiggles. However both blades are not centered well. One blade is almost rubbing the liner, and the other blade actually touches the liner. Design - the Kayak is supposed to be like a “canoe” frame, where no sharp edges can be felt when both blades are in the closed position. Sadly there is a large gap between the raised bolsters and the end of each blade in the closed position, and the ends of the blades are not rounded. This means that the knife is a pocket shredder if you do not have a sheath or leather slip. I cannot believe that this design was given the green light as it fails in the most basic premise of a canoe frame. I will just keep the knife for the heck of it. Am disappointed in this one example of a Reserve (high end SMKW) knife. Poor design, and no quality control with the fact they allowed a knife to leave the factory when one blade clearly rubbing the liner. I have had better quality from regular RR knives, am sad that the Reserve was so poor in quality,
@WilliamsKnifeLife2 жыл бұрын
Thank you fossil imprint. I didn't pick up the Reserve Kayak. The Reserve line started out with potential to rival Case or GEC, but they seem to go for odd designs. The BarBack soured me on them. It had a big old bottle opener right on the top of the blade getting in the way.

Bought this exact same knife a few weeks ago when I went to pick up some screws from the local hardware store. They had it in the display marked $52.99 so I grabbed it. Fit and finish was fine but the grind on the main blade was pretty bad. The tip is so rounded that I’m definitely going to have reprofile the blade (once I get this cast off my arm in about a month), but at the price I got it for I can live with that.

Nice canoe! I’d go for the 6 RRs, myself. Lol. And I’d be willing to clean gunk off them, since they didn’t cost $70. But that’s me. William, have you seen the new RRRs? 009, easy open swayback; 001 gen 2, easy open razor. I’m waiting to see if CKW is cheaper than SMKW’s $40. And for $ to fall from the sky.

I think the Case CV are good for the money for a carry knife. I blue mine, hone a little, strop. When they are good and tight they are pretty good. A couple old used ones I have show me when they are good they'll hold up. The trouble with Case is, when they are bad they are really bad with gaps and unbelievable blade play/wobble. Now comparing prices- the Case knives I like tend to be between 50 and 100 dollars. GECs I look at that I like are going to be 300 dollars and up.
