The same thing happened to my 12-22 recently, but was from normal use. I was shocked to see how little bite that bolt had into the bushing. A trip to TSC and bought a longer, more appropriate length bolt with some loctite and back in business.

We set our 12-22 on a platform that is high enough to place IBC totes underneath. I use a much smaller excavator,a Kubota 008 with a hydraulic thumb to place the logs on the lift. This eliminates the conveyor and keeps the logs away from the lift. I can see the attraction of having an excavator that is large enough to pick up large trees but for placing the logs on the lift it can be precarious. We have other machines for the heavy lifting. Also the 008 is easy to throw on the dump trailer and load off-site logs. As a Plumber for 40 years we are always taught to never use a pump when you can use gravity 😂

@@DudeRanchDIY we went 4 blocks high at 32 inches and the 10-22 sits at 24 for a total of 56. The platform is 12x9. We pulled the splitter off yesterday as we are going to pour a cement floor and install some pipes for the roof and railing. This will lift it another 6 inches and the roof will allow us to leave the splitter out when it rains. It also makes the splitter theft proof as we remove the ramps after she is up. Right now the platform is filled with stone and it is too difficult to move it around on stone. Another work in progress 😂

Hey Jake! Off topic question for this video: What size is the shelter you built for your splitter? Do you have a video where you built it? I am needing to make something similar and curious if you are happy with the size of that shelter.

I forget exactly what the dimensions are, roughly I think it’s 12’ x 20’ it’s good size wise only thing I’d change now is the height of it because of the conveyor. Jake, when you are holding the logs with the excavator to buck, try curling the bucket in and under the log to its maximum position, providing support under the log. This way, you're not relying solely on the thumb pressure to hold the log in position. It could drop on you while you're cutting rounds, causing injury, especially important and safer on the big , heavy logs. Speaking from experience.

Good video Jake. I understand Sarah’s point. On the first fill I leave the tote intact. When it’s time to dump I cut it out. After that you definitely need the door to refill.

Btw, you can buy different sizes wheels for the Mingo Marker to mark and cut different length rounds. Optional Accessories 4 different measuring wheels available: 14", 16", 18" and 6-12-24" increments

Been awhile Any plans for some kind of table for rounds? Your back won't be young much longer. But , w the lift you can just roll them. Mingo rules. Wet barkless logs get pretty slickery though. But your logs are fairly straight. I've had little trouble on the wet crooked ones. That's means its time for the tap and die set. Of course being Canadian its probably metric 😭😭. W. R. would be standard.

If the hole goes all of the way thru the bushing you may be able to run a tap through the bushing and just buy a bolt from the hardware store. I would watch calling miss Sarah missy, she may box your ears. If not physically then verbally. I have made that mistake a few times. Both of you have a wonderful day.

I probably can and will, however there was a small flange on the edge of the bushing that also broke off when it popped out, not sure how critical that is. I’ll bring to your shop on my way to the boat to get fixed 😂

Yep, I’ve done that. The wood ends up falling at the seam of the two totes and gets intertwined. When you go to separate and pull the totes apart a bunch of wood will fall out of each one.

Why couldn't you just turn the totes so that the open sides face each other, then you'd only have to put one cover on instead of installing both.

Because then the opening would be facing the tractor when I go to put it away and when I go to dump it or off load once seasoned. I try to place them all with the cutouts away from the machine to avoid having to reposition them in the future.
