This is an award-winning video. I was so honored to host Science Friday at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in 2015.

@@toddaulner5393 I think he was speaking to their ongoing efforts to find such an elusive particle, not their digging skills. And, despite that the hole was mostly already dug out for a previous reason, I'm sure there are innumerable hurdles to clear in setting up such an equipment-heavy experiment nearly a mile under the surface.

Cool video. I wonder, if dark matter is supposed to shape the universe, or, more specifically, our surroundings here on Earth, why would it be assumed that this dark matter is traveling through space? Or, why would waiting for a supposedly plentiful particle to strike at the right place of a completely still body yield any results when the entirety of everything is defined by this matter?

This video did not explained why Xenon would interact with dark matter when nothing else interacts with it. Maybe they should focus on Dark Energy. They were just falling back on the concept of a scintillator, they need something, and a Xenon flash seemed like a good idea.
@thekeithchannel9 жыл бұрын
So let's say they did detect a particle interaction. Within what certainty would the results be? In other words, how sure would they be that it's a dark matter interaction and not some really odd cosmic event, like a supernova or something? How do they know?
@TheRestOfTheWeek9 жыл бұрын
+Keith Richards Interactions between known particles are not that complicated and quantum physics gives very accurate predictions what detectors signals should look like, and don't forget these predictions have been confirmed experimentally. It is a question of ruling out and what's left over are possible candidates for dark matter detection.

Or very tiny amounts of radioactive substances in their xenon that is supposed to be 100% pure. The similar experiment in Italy found interesting results, but many people suspect they had trace amounts of tritium contamination in their experiment. In fact there are 3 explanations for their results and there’s no way to go back and prove which one was responsible.

Good look for 2020 guys. Look into that Xenon around the water tank ! admittedly you are a bit screwed if anti-matter won't interact with Xenon.

2 Problems you guys are facing: 1). There is ALWAYS NOISE in everything and anything in the universe... you might only find "fragments" of what u call "Dark Matter". 2). You would need to go a lot deeper.... like the core of our planet to find it.

Dark matter is a hypothetical model type of matter. Dark matter is transparent to electromagnetic radiation and/or is so dense and small that it fails to absorb or emit enough radiation to be detectable with current imaging technology. This video did not explained why Xenon would interact with dark matter when nothing else interacts with it. Maybe they should focus on Dark Energy. They were just falling back on the concept of a scintillator, they need something , Xenon flash seemed like a good idea.

I hope you don’t mind waiting another 5 years or so lol. The experiment hasn’t even started yet in 2021! It took way too long to build. And now Italy is building one that is even more sensitive and superior, and that one will probably have results years before these people in the video even finish this experiment. 🤦♂️
@lucast30063 жыл бұрын
The XENONnT experiment in Italy is pretty much the same distance underground and is 8 tons of xenon compared to LZ’s 7 tons. Wouldn’t that make the one in Italy more sensitive and superior contrary to what these people are saying in the video?
@indescribableemptiness41042 жыл бұрын
The video is 6 years old, XENONnT commenced operations in late 2020… So both things can be true and not contrary whatsoever.

i wonder if one would age less in this underground facility
@lucast30063 жыл бұрын
Technically you probably would because you would be exposed to less ionizing radiation. But the changes would probably be so small that you wouldn’t even notice the difference though. Plus, much of “aging” (leathery skin) is caused by exposure to UV rays from the sun, so you can age at a slower rate just by staying inside your house away from the windows or wearing clothes that cover your skin.

but if it a pushing force that bends time and space out word insted of inward like gravity woudent this expiriment be pointless. if it gose through the liquid itle just warp it out of the way insted of pushing it out of the way like how gravity in huge quantaties warps space time into itsself with out it bothering the saroundings at the edges wete warp accures this thing will do the same thing in its outer edge exept outward protecting it from the matter interactions by simply warping out the mater were it stretches and expands it out and once its all the way through it just gose back into place. inorder to detect this thing your going to need something that once you interact with it, it makes everything stay in place including space time and gravity. that would also requir a zero g inviroment witch is possible but incredably dificult.

Problem with video. What is an animation and what is a video? Cool images, but are they "real"?
@scifri9 жыл бұрын
+wholegoose Hello! Our videographer reports that the animations are inspired and heavily influenced by visible physics inside a cloud chamber. The dark matter itself cannot be seen so that is artistic interpretation as are color schemes.

The Religion of Science. There God? Knowledge. What tempted eve to Sin in the garden? Knowledge to be wise. The same Sin is here today and still driving man. Driving man away from God and to a lost eternity. Knowledge is the companion of pride and ego and scientists (on a whole) loath the very idea of God. There sinful souls reject God because of there stubborn refusal to except God on his terms, and in there arrogance and foolish pride they attempt to lay down there terms upon God, which normally go, something like this “If there’s a God then where is he? Why doesn’t he show himself? If he is all powerful then why did he allow everything to fall apart? Why don’t he stop all the bad in the world?” Etc etc. God has made himself known to us and with it he has promised us a place in eternity and rewards for our love and service to him. His name is Jesus and he revealed to us and displayed in himself, the complete nature and character of God. He did what we cannot do by taking our punishment for sin upon himself. And rose from the dead and returned to the fathers right hand. And he has sent us his Holy Spirit. God’s foolishness is wiser than the wisest wisdom of man and following his established plan by nature knocks our ego and pride out of the window. Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand 🖐 🤚 and he will lift you up.
