Pressure drop could also be because of the centrifugal forces pulling the tires so they actually get bigger.

Great video guys that was exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see. The only thing that could've added to it, in my opinion, is a g-ball in the middle where it says "stop" so we can see the relativity of it to the temperature changes of the tyres.

Fascinating and Informative to see this LIVE. We are track rats here in the bay area so we’ve dealt with ‘dialing in’ tire pressures but will have to try these new michelins. You should do that with street tires like the PS4S. Most of us don't have the higher level tires. Personally, I'm a fairly spirited driver and I wouldn't go anywhere on the road without AT LEAST 2.5bar on street tires.

Early in the video when you comment on tire pressure initially decreasing.. I ‘think’ it’s from the tire slightly expanding under the centrifugal effect, side wall is able to stand taller under the weight of the car, and subsequently contact patch decreases compared to when the car is idle. This opens up some volume inside the tire before it heats up, decreasing indicated pressure. Just speculating.

Very interesting video. I'm currently on Cup 2, only have about 3k km on them. Their grip levels surpassed all my expectations. I'll probably switch to the Connect next if they make them for my size. Their higher tire life is very attractive. I'm curios how many more laps you can get out of them compared to the old Cup 2.

i thought that both the tire pressure and temperature drop a little after rolling out because the rubbers are stretched by centrifugal force and that slight initial air pressure drop makes the air get colder too 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hi Robert Keep an eye on your front bushings. Just had my Pista in for yearly service, and it suffers from the same issue as my 488. The heat from the brakes deteriorates the front bushings and rubber brak lines. Mine are done under warranty and my brake lines are replaced with HEL braided lines.

As you start to drive, due to the centrifugal force the tires get a little bit bigger, what devides the air in the tire over a bigger volume, what results in a lower pressure!

About the initial cooldown of the tires: You said it might be because of the cool air flowing around. But I don’t like this explanation. The air flow and the friction happens evenly from start to finish, so it shouldn’t act differently in the beginning. I suspect it is because of the expansion of the tire due to centripetal force. It better explains what you observed, because it is a truly sudden change from standstill, but then it causes no more change as you are going.

Sorry you don't like the explanation:) what you need to keep in mind about the beginning which is a high speed straight is that the car has been sitting with brakes artificially heating up the wheels and tire. When a car stops the tire pressure can climb .2-.3 bar alone from brake heat. Take a 1km run in a straight line cooling this artificial heat off and what do you get? I do not think the the internal volume of the tire changes at speed. in order for the tire to move and create a larger volume you would have to not have a sealed chamber.. in a sealed chamber if the centre moves out the side will move in, if the sidewalls move out, the centre moves in

Probably because the atmospheric pressure difference due to altitude around the entire Ring would be no more than about 3% (1.2 kPa per 100 m). Good luck even measuring that, and isolating it from other variables.

I noticed Robert said that the ideal thing to do is to lower the pressure a bit in the tires that are getting warmer, so as temperature builds up pressures should be equal in all tires, but there is a thing I don't understand. If you lower the pression on the ¨warmer¨tires, they will come up in temperature very fast right? Or will they build temp at roughly the same pace as when they are more inflated? Thanks!

they will actually build pressure faster when they are over inflated! basically the heat starts jumping as pressures rise then its no stopping it
