Glad to see you are dressing the gasket surfaces with the sealer bead oriented to the outside of the mating surfaces. This way (for those that don't know- I'm sure there might be one or two) you will hopefully avoid the 'oozing' of the sealer into the interior of the engine where bits of sealer may come off and find its way through the oil pump where it's 'mulched' into tiny bits can clog up oil galleries. Gasket sealer is a sinister thing if it is not used carefully. I've found that crap in oil galleries of motorcycles I've worked on that were worked on by hobbyists - yikes.

Im really enjoying this series! Very informative! As someone who is interested in picking up a flathead, probably 8ba, how much should I budget for a build to just keep it together? I am not a big HP guy so I just want no leaks and no grenading so I would be keeping it simple. Thank you.

Hi Daniel, thanks. Hard to tell you a budget, the price of buying a Flathead to start with very so much. If you have a machine shop do all the work it could be 5-10 grand. If you find a good motor and do the work yourself, it could be 1-5 grand. There is just no way to put a number to the cost of getting one of these running. The best way and probably the most cost effective is to find a running motor that someone is removing from their car to make a street rod.

The truck pan has a large cleanout access on the bottom of the pan.

I'm building a flathead now so this is timely and very good info. Which red did you use? I can't find any info stating a specific red for 48-52 trucks.
@aarondominguez4533 Жыл бұрын
Dupli-color 1605 Ford red engine paint.
