This is an excellent point - even down in Hampshire there seems to be a gang of watch-thieves at work. If Damian is hanging out in places frequented by HNW-dudes (country clubs, chic restaurants, Ferrari garages, etc) there could be pond life on the lookout for victims wearing fancy watches. The irony is, criminals would probably find _this watch_ (green Nautilus) unsellable. There are relatively few of them, it would always attract widespread attention if one appeared on the market. One registered as stolen with Patek wouldn't be touched by any reputable dealer, auction house or watchmaker. And, in any case, who the hell would want to buy it "hot"? They would be reduced to selling it behind a pub for a few tenners, or something like that...

I have always thought the Nautilus was a nice design, however when complications or worse still diamonds are added it just looses its whole asthetic. You get maximum respect from me (and I’m sure a great many others), for wearing these and not locking them away in a safe for eternity. Although I’m sure they enjoy the security of a large thick metal box when they are not. Crazy prices for a fairly nice watch IMHO 🤷‍♂️

I suspect this may create problems for other independent ADs. Probable this retired AD was stuffing the safe with various hot watches in the months prior to closure that may slowly leak on to the market.

Some people out there are so rich that buying something doesn't have to make sense. They don't need value in accordance to the money they pay because they have so much of it. $490,000 is just an insignificant stack of paper to them. So, they want it. They buy it. End of story.

I think, you are forgetting one thing. The auction one was still sealed in the transport bag from Patek, that is also likely why it reached such a high price. The piece will likely remain in the bag and kept as a safe queen, to eventually being sold again in the future for an even higher price as a collectors item.

That auction price is just bonkers. I actually think you are very brave doing this channel on you tube. Dont get me wrong, I love watching your content because you are showing us your private collection of time pieces that are not obtainable for the mass majority of people. However, by showing your face online and openly saying you wear all your watches you must be pretty crazy as you might be a moving target especially in the UK where watch crime is very high.

Why not get out now damian. While its at an astonishing level. Keep a couple of complicated patek sell the ones that you cant justify the ones with the higest level of appreciation and no complications or prescious metal. Sell rolex sports Stainless pateks Etc It cant last. Get a super special watch. For the money A One off piece patek for the money you get out of them all. I would of thought your reputation wont be damaged if your upgrading. And youll be looked at more favourably for having a special piece when one day the stainless ones wont be seen as anything.

I think Patek and their ADs try their best to sell these watches only to people who are not in a financial place where they would be tempted by the profit from flipping. This funky green Nautilus is an extreme example, of course. It varies from watch to watch. They would NOT have sold me something like the green Nautilus. (And it's a good call, because the thought of a quick half a million _might_ make me start to wake up in the night in a cold sweat!:-o) But they did sell me a reference where the gains from flipping would only be 8 or 9 grand (And hey, I'm not about to burn myself for some chicken feed like that!) So it's about getting the right watches to the right collectors, I guess.
