Clearly that is a C-One case that has been reworked to be a RC-One. Your investigateve work is top notch. Malossi should have offered a choice for the actual RC-One cases or a reworked set of C- One cases, at a slight discount of course.

I've got the simplyest and most ridiculous explanation: Malossi is an italian brand. They ACTUALLY DON'T CARE what they sell if it can be named as the official product. I've seen plenty of absurd products from them. BUT next fact is that they've changed the crankcases. The C1 uses ONLY roller bearings on both sies meanwhile RC1 kept the cylindrical roller bearings on the variator side. They've changed the seal dimensions on the vario side, too. This is what we've recognized recently in our new crankcases. I've heard plenty of more ridiculous stories about cylinder bore and cylinder base surface not existing orthogonality from Polini, new-from-box Stage6 torque drive being useless and not opening perfectly etc. They sell these very damn f>cking expensive parts and many times they're useless craps. You can't do anything about it except building a whole machine shop for yourself and build an engine for yourself....
@imootep446115 күн бұрын
the target customer of this market are teenagers. more often than not the brands just makes up crap about their products to scam kids with useless shiny parts
@49ccscoot15 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. IMO it already seems like sometimes high prices are set basically because all racing stuff is expensive so we have no choice. I get that there's more R&D in race stuff though. Anyway, if they demand top notch prices, it would be nice if we get top notch parts. Stuff happens and you get a dud or something is damaged, but this seems intentional whether it's truly their new design or a way to sell off some unused stuff.
@stiki10815 күн бұрын
@@49ccscoot I'd say both. Your crankcase was clearly a C1 and made it to an RC1. They actually can't produce enough part to sell... this is actually the european market for scooter parts. The CNC machined crankcases are unaffordably expensive therefore they sell almost 0... We buy new stuff and then align what we need to modify before building an engine...

I truly appreciate this video I've never had the chance to see ether cases in person or sen legitimate information on them thank you for explaining both cases so well!! Wish ya could get better footage of where the extra machining process was done, if you can get good pics send them to me and I'll let you know what we think at our machine shop. Coming from someone with all the tools an machines you could ever need, I would like the extra holes PERSONALLY because I have extra minarelli 2fast 100 cylinders so I could switch one of them on if I hurt a fl cylinder. Also I would be able to directly test the minarelli 2f 100 cylinder VS the FL cylinders on the same case. I think if malossi truly expected you to switch between cylinders they should have designed the base gasket height of the crank case a little low And used a oringed spacer(different height available) that bolts to the crank case to get the base gasket surface height correct so then you could port the spacer to match the cylinder instead of porting the case. Because once you port a case to fit a certain fl cylinder it will never fit a different brand of PERFECT. I find it BS that they don't let you know before hand and didn't lower the prices, we all know that the c one didn't sell like the rc1 so their definitely trying to save money. Wether if their modifying old c1's nto rc1's or if they just completely stopped making one case so now they only produce one style of case witch would save them money.
@49ccscoot15 күн бұрын
Thank Zach! To each their own I suppose. If you wanted all of the holes, you could just buy a C-One and cut the crankcase area. Then those of us that really like having the large sealing areas, necessary or not, could still have them. It's hard to argue that Malossi wants to save us from machining, because then if you bought the entire RC-One engine package they would be delivering cases with ports to match the cylinder. It's nice so you can make whatever you want fit, but at that rate they should have narrowed the boost port and let me cut that instead of having it larger than most of the high end kits IMO.
@zacharygillette781015 күн бұрын
@49ccscoot I had always thought the c1 was just minarelli pattern I had no idea it had both! I would say that malossi is 100% making the c1 into rc1 and selling them no way around it. They should at the minimum inform you before purchasing! What I don't understand about the c1 taking flr an minarelli cylinders is that the cylinder heights are different and to switch between the 2 you would have to change the base gasket height..... Like my billet 3kj base gasket height is designed to fit minarelli cylinders and if I want to use FLR I have to use a spacer, so how does the c1 or new rc1 fit both without a spacer??
@49ccscoot15 күн бұрын
@@zacharygillette7810 I've never used a C1 so I'm not sure. Crank for the C1 is 39.2mm stroke and 85mm rod, same as the RHQ for Piaggio, so they aren't doing anything different there.

Recently I purchased some Polini-parts. And I was shocked by their quality; scratched sealing-surfaces, obvious casting flaws, plenty of big burrs anywhere. I sent back the cylinder head - and the next one featured completely different surface-roughnesses...=> Polini clearly cannot guarantee consistent production-processes. Other guys told me that the "quality" of Malossi is equal to the (less expensive!) Polini-parts. Quite sad!

I don't want to make the same comment repeatedly, but I agree that we pay way too much money for what they call high end parts to find flaws regularly.

I bought a complete 139QMB engine from a dealer on eBay for $150. The dealer warned me about it beforehand. It usually costs $600, and the original price was $1200. The engine is extremely powerful but has a wavy crankshaft, which makes it run violently. It also uses a long belt, which provides proper acceleration. I noticed that 101Octane sells all the necessary components. I haven't driven it in the past year due to safety concerns-there were over 200 mass shootings nearby. However, I realized that buying big-bore engine kits directly from China via eBay or AliExpress is very cheap. There are dozens of tuning parts available.

Here in Italy most of the official builds and races requires Piaggio engines (especially Piaggio Zip SP). The RC-One for Minarelli is really uncommon to find. I belive this is the reason of the "recycled" crankcases.

Well i think the “having to get rid of it” theory is not so right, malossi sells lots of c-one cases (at least they do here in Italy) cause lots of people have “stock style” cylinders at home and want to use them, I can find more c-one’s than rc’s on marketplace… Maybe they’ve just made a mistake, or they thought it would have been a nice and cheap thing to add.

I thought that briefly, but it just looks so much like an afterthought. I figured they could still machine the cases for RC-Ones without a ridge and the same uniform finish that the old ones had. Could be though. It's not like I really know anything about manufacturing. Thanks for the input!

@49ccscoot15 күн бұрын
I'm not really a Dio guy. I've cut more cases than I'd like for them, but I've never even rode one. First thought is make sure you've got good compression and everything is generally in good shape. Then make sure you aren't using heavy rollers that are keeping RPM down. Next guess is make sure the cylinder and pipe setup is good for it. I'd expect most stock stuff should rev to 8000-8500, at least based on experience with others.

This isn't the first time Malossi does something like this. They repurpose stuff all the time to get rid of extra stock. At the end of the day, they're just trying to sell parts to european teenagers! Kinda inconsequential, i'm sure you could just fill in the studs with some threaded rod and jbweld to get a perfect case match. But yes, still annoying and dumb.
