This movie was made when the United States was not yet at war. This film and others (Mrs. Miniver, The First of the Few) were to show to the United States the importance of supporting Britain and the Commonwealth in fighting Nazi Germany. Leslie Howard was killed by the Luftwaffe soon after these films -- for his spy work and movies against Nazi Germany.
