What a GREAT life and story. I'm 84 and lived next door to Camp Roberts in California. My dad was in the pacific theater as they say. He had 2 silver stars 1 bronze star 2 purple hearts and he also didn't talk about it unless he had 3 or 4 shots, then I got snipets here and there. What great soft hearted GraPa and man you can look up to. I'm also proud of the Grand son that took the time to bring this story to life, we need to respect the brave that went before us, GOD bless Jim and his family, he truly has left a great legacy for others that fall short. I know his Grand son will go far in life, I can almost Garrantee it.

Don't make men (boys) like that anymore. My great grandad was like Pat Tillman before Pat Tillman. Quit pro football in his prime at 28 joined the US Army. Already was an established attorney as they made peanuts those days to play. He came home a Major after a battlefield promotion. All glory to God. Honorably discharged with a Silver Star and two purple hearts. His two sons then went to Europe and The Pacific 24 years later. God bless America.

I joined the army Infantry at 17. I needed both my parents to sign for me. Essentially emancipating me so I could join. I remember a month into basic my drill sergeant pulled a hair out od my chin and gave me a talk about shaving. My dad was so pissed that he got to do that. I assured my Father that he didn't enjoy it one bit. I was the baby of the batallion. Despite having to shave all of a sudden, i couldn't grow anything resembling a beard or mustache until i was 35.

Calvin Leon Graham: The youngest U.S. serviceman to serve in World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 12 in 1942. 14-year-old Valentine Strudwick enlisted in 1915. He was killed in action in Belgium at age 15 Also signing up as a private at the age of fourteen was Reginald St John Battersby, who was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant at the insistence of his father and headmaster, who thought that his rank was inappropriate for a middle-class boy. Sergei Andreyevich Aleshkov (Russian: Сергей Андреевич Алёшков, 15 February 1936 - 1 February 1990) was a Soviet soldier, adopted "Son of the Regiment", and the youngest to serve in World War II at 6 years old. (this one is nuts. Under fire the kid kept the men supplied with ammo) Reginald Earnshaw The youngest known Commonwealth service member to die in action in World War II, Earnshaw was 14 years and 152 days old when he was killed in 1941. My point is this is nothing unusual. All gave some. Some gave all. For years after the war my grandfather would suddenly swear an pull a piece of shrapnel out of his leg.
