Love the Century 21 on your thumbnail...do you still have the rig? I have one, but the vfo tuning is stuck on it and I can't seem to find the time to go in and see if I might be able to fix it somehow.

That's a BT prosign. The terminal doesn't know how to interpret a prosign

BT with a line over it, is the standard way to write that prosign. But it is a good idea to ask the examiner if they will send prosigns and if so how they want to see them written.

Regularly practice copying code. It will sink in and your comprehension will allow faster and faster copy.

Out of curiosity, is 5 WPM a normal transmission rate?

You won't hear many stations sending at 5wpm but most hams will slow down to match a 5wpm station if they hear them. A conversation at that speed can take a really long time. If I had to guess, I'd say most "ragchewing" I hear on-air is done between 18 - 25 wpm. Contestors are usually in excess of 25 - 30 wpm. Straight key folks are in the 15 - 18 wpm range. When I tested for my General license the speed was 5wpm to pass the exam. That was a couple years before they dropped the code requirement.

The no longer around novice test And Technician test was 5 wpm in the old days. I had a Tech plus license at one point . Thus 5 wpm was the baseline for code.

Mirek T @Mirek T You can go to the video as its playing and tap on it to stop. You will then see up on the upper right side of the video 3 little dots and just tap it and it will take you to settings where you can increase or decrease the playback speed of the video. It’s great for slowing the Morse Training as slow as you need and then go back and later and speed it up as you progress of just put the setting back on normal like it was to begin with. It’s on the same screen part that shows going forward or backwards. I think once the video is over and you try to replay it again or go on to another video, it automatically puts the playback speed to normal automatically, so you have to keep adjusting the playback speed back to a slower speed “again” every time you want to slow it down. Or you can google search “how to change the Playback Speed on Utube. I change the playback speed all the time depending on fast or slow I want to hear something. Good luck with Morse! :)

Hi :) i just got one of them chinese usdx for learning cw, i also got a chinese keyer, its ok i think for the money, i have a decoder so i can see what im wrighting and recive, but, what speed should i start with? I tryed 17/18 wpm and it seems like i can wright cq sota ee now 😂 my first words, but..should i learn with 5 wpm you think? Remember i am totaly noob to this. Sending is easier than copying. I can reliability send at 18. But only reliability copy at 8 or so. My Elmer has me trying no less than 13 as that is where it starts to become a rhythm instead of a string of dots and dashes. It has to be sent perfect and with no Farnsworth for it to work for me. If I have time to think about the character, I miss the next one. He also won't allow me to use a pencil to copy. He says do it in your head or it will slow you down. He breezes along at over 30 with his friends while tying fishing flies at his desk! He uses a bug. I'm learning on a straight key.
