It’s always interesting to see how Halloween is marked around the world. It started here in Ireland as a long forgotten holy day (a bit like how orange pumpkins are identified as THE Halloween foodstuff to carve up, but actually the pumpkins were originally turnips carved by Irish emigrants, gradually becoming replaced in America). I wonder if many people in that huge crowd celebrating there in Japan knew they were actually marking an old Irish tradition of remembering and praying for the dead? Probably not... most people think Halloween is an American holiday, and in some ways, it is today, but it comes from us. Well, hope our Japanese friends had fun marking All Hallow’s Eve in their own way...

Amazing, Rambalac! Enjoyed your video of Halloween in Shibuya. Good job, especially under such circumstances like Halloween night in Shibuya. Per your request, here is an edited version of your intro: This Halloween I again went to Shibuya to film the lively and noisy festivities. On Saturday and Sunday it was not too crowded, but on the 31st it was exactly like previous years: noisy, congested and chaotic. Even so, as you can see in the video, Halloween revelers seem to be enjoying themselves in a lively and noisy way.. No map of the area was necessary as I did not go that far from the Metro station. In any case, the current map of the area around Shibuya station is not accurate or up to date. The map is confusing and not too useful, only showing a messy labyrinth of winding streets and back alleys. Video shot a on 10/31 at around 8pm.
