@jbr4965 жыл бұрын
When did 473 go in for repairs? I was trying to remember the last time we rode on the train with that engine. I thought it was in 2006-08 but I could be wrong. Seems like we always end up on 480 or 482.
@rileysanesh52032 жыл бұрын
Since I rode behind engine 480 now I’m thinking about riding either 481 or 473 well you can’t tell which train you could take because it can’t be the same everyday

Interesting methinks. The loco seems to producing large amounts of clag. But I've been a fan of this particular railroad for a wee while sure it's nothing like the Ffestiniog/welsh highland railway with its single and double fairley types and of course the ex south African narrow gauge Garrett locomotives. But nonetheless very spectacular. Cheers from new Zealand.

I lived there, in Silverton...my son was born in Durango and when he got out of HS, he worked for the D&S for a couple of years. He started on maintenance of way. He grew up with it...if you are going to go only once...the best time is to go halfway in the fall or in the winter. The summer is nice, but in the winter with the snow...and the creek...it is something really special. In the fall the tree colors are also very special.

Love that train trip. Probably done it more that ten times over the years. Including once during the fires when we had to take the short trip down from Silverton with the diesel engine. The little fire cart that follows the train would be my dream job but only if I could carry a gun for protection from the bears.
@TheFrogfeeder4 жыл бұрын
What is that little yellow cart all about? It watches to make sure the train don’t start a fire?

Does anyone know how fast these engines can go? What’s their max speed?
@michaelramsey822 жыл бұрын
Their official rated top speed is 45 MPH. I doubt most of them have ever actually gone that fast. Around 30 or 35 would be the highest speed ever seen in normal use.
