Thanks for watching everybody! I have a bunch of footage from drifting and grip racing that didn't make it into this video, as well as a lot more pit walk footage! If you're interested in seeing that, let me know and I'll put it together in another video.

01:03 Biggest pulleys i've seen in a Japanese car 03:24 That Grill is a Dream Great Event and Coverage of it. Grip and Drift don't go well together due to Drift being hard on tracks. Drift has frequent breakdowns/oil downs, puts dirt on track and tends to damage track limits/curbs. Especially so in amateur level events
@DoctoredGarage11 ай бұрын
Dirt is a legitimate concern, but at an amateur event with no classes or timing system it can be a benefit for driver learning. This event was a bit more chaotic than most drift events I've been to in terms of breakdowns. All these old Corollas having trouble keeping it together 😆😆 But it's more than that, the whole "dirty drift kid" stigma is what I was alluding to. I've had grip organizations try to get drift events shutdown and ban drift organizations from tracks, even when the drift organization has a proven good record.
@gafrers11 ай бұрын
@@DoctoredGarage Absolutely true. Too many stuck up people thinking they are F1 champions or taking part in FIA WEC, instead of a local timed track day. Having worked at a track for 2 summers ages ago I can say that drifters are very approachable and friendly but the track is left in a bad state. What you says about dirt on track being good for developing skills is true.

Some drift organizations are bad at cleaning up the track afterwards ha. The orgs I drove with or helped run events with all had a clean up crew for after the event. Blowers, track sweepers, etc. Then bring in an asphalt or concrete truck to fix any damage. But, some tracks prefer to charge an extra fee and do all that themselves too. These are legit concerns. One of the things I was working on at Rockingham was track erosion protection. That old asphalt was in rough shape and crumbled easily. There was a bunch of concrete added at high erosion areas and it helped quite a bit, but it still needed a lot more. The track asked for my full paving plans and they're trying to get it all done in the next year. I have my fingers crossed, it would address all concerns for stuff like that. The main personal negative experience I have with grip drivers is the owner of an organization saying to me "Devin you're really smart, you've got this whole corporate/dentist kind of appearance, why are you drifting? You should be grip racing". Like, he thought that all drifters are dumb and drifting is dumb, and all smart people should only be road racing. Lol

I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative, there are definitely some differences in track maintenance for drift vs grip, and I don't want to shrug those off. It's the "drifting isn't a legitimate Motorsport and shouldn't be allowed at racetracks" that is bothersome
@gafrers11 ай бұрын
@@DoctoredGarage You are 100% right. Not argumentative at all. Yes many snob Drifting like if it was unworthy.
