4K Blu-ray Discs Won’t Run on Xbox Series X

My Xbox Series X is having trouble reading 4K Blu-ray Discs, it seems. The Two Towers Disc 2 and Return of the King Disc 1 & 2 won’t play. Anybody else having this issue with any other Blu-ray Discs?

Same shit is happening to me. 3 different UHD movies. Nada. But my Xbox One X gave me ZERO problems playing 4K discs. I almost regret selling it when I got my Series X. And what has Microsoft done about it SMH? No Patches, No Nothing. SMH

lies i had never had a issue with my 1080p blu-rays with the xbox since i use my lg blu-ray player with my samsung 1080p tv

So I bought the GOT 4k Blu Ray collection, and it was great until I wanted to see the Battle of Bastards. I noted that the disc spinned but suddenly stopped. It did that a couple of times and then it definitely stopped. Then I tested some discs and I discovered that some disc that I already played, won't play. So I tried three times put in the disc into the disc drive and then the disc worked. I tested the Battle Of Bastards disc again, and it played. Overall, 25 of the full 30 discs set, worked. However, some of them won't play, no matter what I do. I will try these 5 discs in another blu ray player (PS5 probably), and then I will update this comment. In case you're wondering, they don't have scratches or anything. They're brand new. (Discs that didn't work: S1-D1 / S2-D2 / S6-D1 / S6-D2 / S8-D1) *UPDATE* I finally tested the discs in a PS5, and they perfectly work. So I can confirm there's something wrong with the Series X BD4K player or with the Blu Ray App. I didn't find a solid reason for it to happen. It happens with both 66gb and 100gb discs. Also, the majority of the set are 100gb discs, so it doesn't make sense. My conclusion: the Xbox Series X even though it is a great gaming console, it's not a trustable Blu Ray 4k player.

Ya, we should all make a petition for this for real someone needs to get sued, xbox was advertised to be able to play blu ray discs..

Yeah I bought a series x brand new in December and within four months the disc drive simply refused to recognise any 360 discs, xbox discs and even certain series x discs would start installing then stop for no reason. No scratches no damaged disc drive etc just a scam

I’d also like an explanation. Having lots of problems recently trying to get movies on disk to play . I think it’s a problem with the blue ray app maybe. Idk frustrating

Fellowship barely works. Lots of stutters and digital distortion on screen and it eventually hangs.. sucks when the console should be more than able to do this

It doesn't like 100GB discs. If you flip the discs over and look near the centre you can see if they're 66GB or 100GB. Just tried with a brand new set, 100 disc - nope. 66 disc was fine. Very poor from MS / Xbox.

My Xbox one X refuses to play DVD movies but it will play Blu-Ray movies both Normal and 4K UHD just fine. It's the DVD not playing that bothers me as many of my shows are still on DVD. Microsoft needs to get their shit together and make sure their console disc readers works.

Not sure who is at fault. I reached out to the distributors for the LOTR set I have. Sent them this video. I'm not sure if they're going to send me out new discs or if it's something to do with the Xbox Hardware.

Just watched your video and I have managed to solve this, I think. My only 4k disc is fallout and it worked fine when I got it new. Yesterday I put it in my series x and would not play, it came up with the error code. I tried everything. I tried again today but I put the disc in the upside down by mistake which gave me a different error code, so I ejected the disc and put it back in the correct way and it played!! Sounds insane but it worked. Give it a try.

Nope. Never got it to fix. Recently, I put in a disc and it didn't read. I put the disc into my PS5, and it played just fine. So, I think it's on Microsoft's end. Not sure if it's a simple software fix, or if it's a problem with the hardware. My guess is that it's a problem with the hardware since it hasn't been fixed after this long.

This is the only console i have regretted buying many of my blu ray discs wont play some make my xbox crash and i cant believe they too out the option to play 3D movies . Aint consoles meant to get better when new ones come out this one went backwards .

Mine won't play any sort of blu ray, games or movies. CD, DVD and Xbox 360 discs are fine. Any solutions suggestions would be appreciated. I've tried power setting options, hard resets etc.

I have the same issue with almost all my 4K Blu-ray Discs it must be a firmware issue probably has to do with the audio decoding.

Mine works for Blu Rays-DVD’s at 1080P. However I find the picture is super blurry on it. I also have a Sony DVD player that cost $80 and it genuinely runs better than the Series X. Honestly worst console I have ever owned.

Hey, Guys I just figured out why it’s not working, turn the disk where the bottom of the disk is facing towards you/ to the ceiling. This will fix it
