I was just about to point this out because I own one and yes it is a bit of a pain that when I want to play a DV disc I do have to select it then switch back to regular HDR when I'm done but given that takes 10 seconds it's no big deal! Have to say the players performance is stunning on my C1 oled and I wouldn't swap it for any any other model... :) It's Interesting about the whole DV vs HDR too, this last couple of weeks I have watched Rogue One HDR and Rise Of Skywalker HDR and last night The Last Jedi in DV and while Last Jedi in DV looked incredible, both the other films in HDR were way superior to my eye! In general I have found DV isn't as good for my viewing :)

Its definitely worth the money and if you don't want to buy 4k movies for it then you don't have to. It makes the picture quality of a lot of normal Blu-ray discs pop out way better than anything else i have used.

I bought this same Player back in 2018 when it was originally launched, it was not available in my country so I had to Fly to Australia just to buy this and to buy my Yamaha RX V-685 receiver. I love this player, so smooth and the picture quality is pretty darn good. Apart from the network services menu which looks like a 80's game menu, everything else is just amazing. I bought this for 600 AUD brand new back in 2018.

Appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us :) I don't even have this player (I have a much older Panasonic DMP-BDT220), but many of the settings are similar (chroma, PCM, etc). I'm running a very entry level 2.1 channel system (logitech z623) through an analog converter (optical to RCA), so i can only use PCM for now

I know this video has been out for a while, but I wanted to bring a particular comment to your attention. At 10:47, you talk about color mode and mention 4.2.0 as the least compressed. Actually 4:4:4 is uncompressed and therefore provides the best image quality, whereas 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 sacrifice color quality for a lower data rate. I bring this up; Though it really doesn't matter unless you are "gaming or have a computer" hooked to the TV. Great video.

i don't think i mention 420 as being the least compressed (i just rewatched and didn't hear that). My intention was to let people know blu ray movies are natively encoded in 420, so ideally, one would want to deliver 420 from their player directly to the TV so as to prevent the player and TV from making multiple chroma adjustments, which can degrade the image. That said, Panny has really solid video processing and many swear by its chroma upsampling abilities, while others claim having the tv making chroma adjustments is ideal. Who knows at this point? which is why i just set it to "auto."

I have this player and thank you with the setting. I did not know that you had to set it for OLED which is what I have. I watch Patriot Games twice and saw the difference in the picture. Though one thing the colors are not that deep but that is a 1980 picture and it was not in surround sound though the menus said it did. Now I will follow your instruction this evening, I did not know that it had a voice command. So I have to watch Star Wars and Devotion again and watch Battle Angel tonight

I had an older Panasonic Blu-ray player back when Blu-ray was just becoming popular over DVD. I'm curious if Panasonic has changed the behavior of their interface in the following two ways that really bothered me about their interface over Sony's. 1. Whenever powering up the player with a disc in the tray, the disc would auto play (even if I didn't want it to). Sony waits for the disc to be selected. 2. When disabling BDLive, Panasonic would constantly complain and continually put up alerts during movie playback. Outside these I enjoyed using the player while I had it. I also went Sony because I like Sony TVs, so it's nice to stick with on brand when possible. Great review. Whenever I need a new player, the Panasonic looks like a really nice choice (as long as I won't have to deal with the quirks listed above.)

1. The player does not auto play the disc. You have to select. it. 2. I'm not sure about this one, i don't recall making changes to this function. I will say though, the system does not bother me with annoying prompts or pop ups.

I could be wrong, but I do believe both these quirks can be disabled. Auto playback can usually be disabled in just about every player I’ve ever owned. Some devices require a little deeper dive in the menus.

I've had the UB420 for some time -- and it DOES have the HDR Optimizer. But I just bought this because the 420 doesn't have Dolby Vision (Criterion 4K discs only have Dolby Vision -- no "HDR").

The 820B and its big brother, the UB9000 are probably the best pure disc spinners avaiable at $400 and $955 respectively. Their video circuitry and picture quality are identical. That said, if you intend to play a lot of MKV, MP4, BDMV or ISO videos on an external hard drive or over your network, these players may not be for you. They are limited in the kinds of video and audio encoring that they can play. As examples, they can't play lossless audio from MKVs or reconize embedded chapter marks in them. The also can't play lossy E-AC3 audio in video files. That format is a standard in streaming content. Even Atmos on the streamimg services is really E-AC3 expanded out to use all available speakers. I have a UB9000 and my still trusty Oppo-203. While the Panasonic edges out the Oppo in HDR10 video (Dobly Vision is about even), the Oppo can play almost any combination of video and audio encoding in any video file format. The Sony 4K players are probably more versatile than the Pannys when it comes to playing video files but their forcing you to turn Dolby Vision on and off manually is a major shortcoming. So if you're looking for a unit that you'll use purely for playing discs, the Pannys can't be beat.😅

For audio, the DP-UB9000 and DP-UB9000P1K will NOT play SACDs or DVD Pure Audio discs. Don't know about Super Discs. My 10-year old Oppo BDP-103 and 5-year old Pan UB X800 are compatible with all of these codecs. At $1K, a deal killer for me personally, and questionable engineering for Pan's supposed flagship player. I've also read a pattern of reviews where the disc tray on these units tend to freeze close and require servicing. It could be the disc, but taking people at their word, the discs cited were 4K, Blu-ray and regular DVDs, some brand new and are still seizing up.

Hello and congratulations for the video. A fundamental question, unfortunately the 1100 euro big brother 9000, on mkv movies from usb, does not emit high resolution audio, i.e. the dts-hd master audio, dolby atmos and dolby true hd are muted, they only work from the original blurays. Can you tell me if this model doesn't have this castration wanted by Panasonic on the 9000? Thank you!

Turn off the tone mapping from your TV and use only the HDR optimizer from the player. The panasonic dp-ub820 is far superior in HDR tone mapping than your LG oled.

yes, if your tv's luminance is above 1000 nits, it would be considered super bright. I think anything 750-1000 nits is more like moderate brightness.

no, the video hdmi would go from player to tv, and the audio hdmi would go from player to receiver. Or, you could have both audio and video sent via one hdmi cable from player directly to tv. Not sure about the DTS question.

Hello! I just bought this as an upgrade to my previous 4K player. I installed it the same way my last one was. HDMI Video/Audio Out plugged directly into my TV. this can happen sometimes with home theater systems, specifically blu ray players and AVRs. If you are using an AVR, try looking for an audio delay adjustment option. Same for the blu ray player options, look for an audio delay adjustment option.

minimal differences between the m2 and X800 from what i hear. m2 has better chassis and DV with true cinema 24p support. But in terms of HDR10 playback, the visual quality between the two are nearly identical. The X700 is sort of a stripped down version of the X800, that said, it does offer DV. Though, DV on the X700 has to be manually changed back and forth by the user depending on content.

yes, hdmi audio out from player can go right into receiver - any port, and you'll get flawless atmos, dts x etc with your movies. The video out on your player can go right into your TV, bypassing the receiver. I never bothered using eARC.

They all look the same to me, the oppo is and was the most expensive because of its custom build, and still is my favoured player, although its not DV capable unless you could install an update but I sacrificed DV for multi region, the remote lights up when picked up, you can skip exactly to an exact time in a film by using the ''go to'' button and punching in (example) : 02hr:43min:25s, something I find you can't do on any other players, I used to have the Sony x700 but it was very sensitive to disc freezing and skippin on 4k discs, it was a nice compact player and nice start up but this also didn't feature any front panel display making it a bit tricky for those discs that didn't resume playback,

@@ethanberry9846 yeah, i think by and large the image is similar for all 4k playes across the board, with subtle differences. I think the biggest differences honestly are a certain player's functions and capabilities, not necessarily just its image. For example, does its remote have a backlight? Does the player execute DV and HDR10+? Does it allow you to make major changes to the contrast, saturation etc? Cheap players tend to omit all these quality of life improvements and functions.

@@hhinojosareef1 depends which country you are buying the player from, you can buy a multi region player, dvd and blu ray (all regions) but will be a much higher price tag, otherwise they are locked to the country you buy from. Region 1/A USA. Region 2/B UK/Europe etc.

Great video.... I bought the ubx800 a couple yrs ago although a good picture I get annoyed it doesn't have a screen to show chapters, time etc.. I could have bought the oppo 203 but would of had to wait as none in stock...🙄 However I sold my older Panasonic 55ez952 oled and bought the 65inch hz2000 flagship which does all the hdr formats... I am amazed at the picture on this tv.. and am after the best picture I can get... would the ub820, reavon x100 or Panasonic ub9000 be best suited to my needs..?? I use a pioneer av receiver... I also have a bit of a thing for build quality too the build on my tv remote is solid chrome and my reg free pioneer 1080p player next to the sony is great too.... any help be much appreciated 👍🏽 Subscribed too by the way..!!!

This is the worst player I've ever had. It stops playing 4ks after a little over 1 year. My 1st one stopped playing 4ks while the blu ray kept playing discs. I bought another same model.
