I like this city, San Francisco is an interesting place with lots of lovely and interesting places to see such as The Golden Gate Bridge, The Palace of Fine Arts, Pier 39, and Fisherman's Wharf.

I am so glad that San Francisco China Town still maintained its authentic and icon looks. Not like the China Town in different part of the world. Like Vancouver and Hawaii. and many more. Iam 68yrs old Asian man who grew up in San Francisco. But had moved to another country. I miss the authentic Chinese food that was only available in China Town. 😃😪Another thing about this Chinatown is that there is a reasonable parking garage.

Amazingly comprehensive stroll through the original Chinatown. So nice to see people slowly returning to the streets with the tourists on Grant Ave. and the locals on Stockton Street. Hopefully when the muni subway station is finally opened on Stockton (the construction site you passed), this will only help to revive a neighborhood that has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic. As pointed out by others, the Richmond and the Sunset districts to the west are the newer neighborhoods with large Chinese populations but nothing can replace the distinctive atmosphere of the old Chinatown. Thanks again for the wonderful walk.

Thank you for your video. Regarding 34:46, this lovely neighborhood park in Chinatown in San Francisco is called Portsmouth Square. This was the original location where San Francisco began as a town called Yerba Buena established by William Anthony Richardson on June 25, 1835. Portsmouth Square was named after the naval ship USS Portsmouth commanded by Captain John Berrien Montgomery when it arrived in June 1846 to protect Yerba Buena after it had broken away from Mexico during the Bear Flag Revolt which established the Republic of California. This happened during the Mexican-American War from April 25, 1846 until February 2, 1848.

My home State and City. Although, local I haven't been to the original Chinatown in years. Glad to see that people are out and about again. How many Chinatowns does San Francisco have? FOUR! This is the official and oldest but don't forget about the Richmond district, Clement Street. Then you have Irving and Noriega Streets as well! (25:56), Great Star Theatre....man I haven't been to Chinatown at LEAST in 20+ years but man I remember this theatre when I was a kid. My parents would take us to evening showings when I was growing up. That was over 40 years ago!

What a lot people do not realize, most of the Chinese in San Francisco do not live in Chinatown. One in three residents in Chinatown are not Chinese. A good portion of the real estate in Chinatown is owned by developers who are not Chinese. Chinatown San Francisco is no longer “Chinatown”. A lot of Chinese owned businesses have closed. San Francisco does a terrible job at preserving culture and heritage.
@proudasiangirl5762 жыл бұрын
There use to be a lot of night life. People would be out in the wee hours eating after watching a movie on Grant, Sing Sing theater, or Great Star theater on Jackson or Pagoda Palace on the outskirts of Chinatown by little Italy. If you were born and raised in San Francisco, you'll know what I am talking about. But then again San Francisco as a whole has changed a lot as well, not for the better.
@sneat20282 жыл бұрын
@@proudasiangirl576 I was born and raised in San Francisco, it's sad what has happened to San Francisco in general. The soul, the heart and the character of the City is no longer there. You're right, Chinatown used to be a great spot to eat and visit with family and friends. The transplants who ruined the vibe/culture are the same people who are trying to keep the Great Highway permanently closed. I moved out of the City several years ago to another part of the Bay Area, I only go to the City for work assignments. It no longer feels like home to me.

I live in NYC we have 9 official Chinatown. My husband is ABC. American born Chinese for the uninformed. I hate NYC Chinatowns. San Francisco has this famous one which is the oldest and the Richmond historic which is actually more authentic and less touristy. I love Chinatown San Fransisco because it is MUCH cleaner than any in NYC or the rest of the country! But the ethnic make up has changed in the one you filmed. The Chinese there come in to work. They have been here for a long time and no longer live in Chinatown. The better food is now in the Richmond district. But i love the one that you are filming. So clean and unlike NYC the Chinese there are friendly and not hostile to mixed couples. Here they al want to pretend they own my husband who wants nothing to do with their racism. San Fransisco is much nicer! Thank you for filming it is so beautiful! But if you want to have real authentic Un Americanized Chinese food go to Richmond!
