@ 1:55 he walks past my apartment that I have been living at for 12 years. I have watched this part of the neighborhood go from 75% abandoned buildings to what you see today it has been remarkable what they have done in the past 10 years for this city. ​@@Warrenwoon It was a nice German neighborhood before the degradation began. They just restored it as opposed to letting the historic architecture decay to the point of needing demolished because of people that wont take care of it.

When I lived in Cincinnati in the 1970's, OTR had a reputation as the most dangerous and dilapidaated neighborhood in the city. Obviously, it's come a long way, but I'm not sure they've found exactly the right formula to make it the trendy, nightlife mecca it's built up to be. Maybe, it was a slow night, but it didn't seems like it was a bustling, action filled, crowded city playground it has been cracked up to be. Perhaps, they need to close Vine and make it a "Walking Street" for a few blocks, maybe beef up security as I didn't see a great deal of LE presence, add a few more singles bars, and an all night diner or two. Still think they need to fine tune the mix of businesses, but it does show promise.

Great video for tourists to think Hey, I’m going down there. Watch out, looks can be deceiving. @13:18 You can see Micheal Bany Way so named for a beloved musician who was leaving a gig and was shot to death for the money he made that night. That was during another time when Cincinnati was going to “change OTR” so more people would come downtown. That event put the kibosh on that. Look before you leap. Stay safe.

I was in jail for a night when that guy was there.. (young dumb stuff.) he had tried to escape. He jumped out a window that was being replaced. He didn't know he was on the third floor. Killed that musician for a couple bucks. Bad guy was in a wheelchair all busted up..and everyone laughing. Saying he thought he could fly.

You did a great job filming my old neighborhood. I grew up in OTR in the 50s and 60s but I have no desire to go back. We could walk the street at night back then with no fear. I wouldn't do that now though. I thought there were a lot of bars in OTR when I was a kid but back then was nothing compared to now.

Downtown Indy is filled mostly with chain establishments catering to conventions. OTR is historic and is populated almost exclusively with independently owned businesses. Indy is suburban, Cincy is urban.

I grew up in downtown on 15 the and vine street and republi worse dam place in cin Ohio but they said oh it looks nice yea yes they have always made it look nice untill the ppl get on alhcolic and drugs then it goes BK the same way beside I was in a couple ppls apartments and they only painted and put new carpet in the come on ther paying 1500 for a place I payed 500 in them ppl are so off the change why wd u pay a thousand more to be in a place ware ratts run around and ppl Robb and shoot they will never stop shooting specaliy sence Mike duwine did the gun vielence thing

Lived in the ‘nati for nearly four decades, I’ve been in OTR many times. But this video is basically a Chamber of Commerce advertisement for visiting Over-the-Rhine. Reality is you need to be aware of the environment. Main Street is impressive all shiny and attractive but once you get beyond that area things might get a bit sketchy. Seriously Cincinnati has serious crime issues. A murder rate right behind Chicago, actually #11. You most likely wouldn’t be killed in OTR if you’re white, robbed or assaulted, possibly. I’ve walked these streets without issues, even way past midnight. Fact is most of the folks murdered in Cincinnati are black folks by other black folks. A sad situation that I’m quite sure BLM is totally on the case, well because Black Lives Matter, or so I’ve heard. Stats and math might not equal political objectives. That said please visit the many fine venues and restaurants and other establishments in this area but be careful, yes I have friends that own businesses in the area. Seriously the same rules apply to visiting various foreign countries. Actually nix all that as I’ve watched to many horror movies involving trips into the woods, Central and south America, Eastern Europe and various parts of the Southern parts of the United States. Reality is you’re totally safe no matter where you go. Or so the Chamber of Commerce says. Best wishes and enjoy your adventures.
