The City of Arts and Sciences is a cultural and architectural complex in the city of Valencia, at the southeast end of the former riverbed of the river Turia, which was drained and rerouted after a catastrophic flood in 1957. The old riverbed was turned into a picturesque sunken park. It is the most important modern tourist destination in the city of Valencia and one of the 12 Treasures of Spain.
Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, the project began the first stages of construction in July 1996, and was inaugurated on 16 April 1998 with the opening of L'Hemisfèric. The last major component of the City of Arts and Sciences, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, was inaugurated on 9 October 2005, Valencian Community Day. The most recent building in the complex, L'Àgora, was opened in 2009.
Originally budgeted at €300 million in 1991 for three structures, it has expanded about three times the initial expected cost.
This architectural masterpiece is a must see in Valencia.

Excellent camera work, as always, Shiso. I'm reliving my experience through it. Thank you. My Valencian cousins took me and my son to this marvellous place July of last year. Can't wait to visit Spain again when circumstances allow for it.

Hello Shiso. First of all; Topscore for the thumbnail alone. It sparked my curiosity, as I could genuinely not tell what it was, other than it looked grand. "Is it a space ship? A cruiseship? No, it's City of Art and Sciences!" Design-wise a true spectacle. As for the video itself, you covered it perfectly from all angles, showing us the details of this "Giant Fishbone" of a building. (it may sound "simple" to say, but that's what I saw at first when I saw some of the close up shots) It's clearly a very special place, and your video did it great justice, with a great variety of shots. And I liked that you took us through that park/green space near the end, it's always great to see the surroundings to get "the big picture" so to speak - no pun intended! Thank you so much Thomas! The aliens haven't landed here yet... Hahah. The building complex is really very futuristic, as you have seen. And the herringbone is also intentional, as you correctly noticed. The architect Calatrava included the proximity to the sea. in reality the whole thing looks even more impressive and it is very difficult to capture it on film. Personally, the paddlers on the water surprised me a lot. These are a stupid concession to the dumbfounded tourists. I would have liked to have shot more perspectives, but it was just too hot....I am so glad that you enjoyed this film so much. So the sweaty work in the Spanish sun was worth it. That said, YES, your work under the hot sun was definitely worth it, it was very enjoyable to watch. You did a splendid job covering this architectural wonder. Enjoy Spain my friend.
