FYI, (I am an auto-body technician) those panels on the rear hatch and the interior roof come off quite easily. They are held on by some simple clips. You can use the tool they gave you to remove them. Then you can use that other rubber gromet that the factory has used to run the 3rd brake light/wiper wires through, and your new camera wire will not be exposed. I don't know if that wire has been factory terminated inside the rear camera, or if it will easily unplug. But even if they are factory terminated, it would make sense to untuck the wire from the front of the car and reroute them through there, even though it is a lot of work. You may get the cord hung up on some cargo and possibly rip it apart.

This is the best review for the A139 Pro that I've seen. Thanks for showing the app and how it works, that was very helpful. I want to buy the 2CH version of this but I don't know how to hardwire it myself, and not sure how to hire someone to do it if I buy it from Viofo directly.

Thanks for this review. A dashcam is an item I resent having to think I need. I bought a super-cheap one merely to record passing scenery, but as always, people and institutions are now (or will soon be) thinking of them as necessary or even required equipment. How soon before insurance companies will begin offering "discounts" if you install a dashcam (if they don't already; I don't really know)? How soon before they become pre-installed equipment on all autos? How soon before dashcams have facial recognition?

beware of overheating issues. Rear cable fitting wiggles a lot and not a tight / snug fit. Otherwise, it is a good dash cam. Once mounted leave it as constant plugging and unplugging will damage or wear the connectors.

Just curious how does the power station setup is gonna work? Shouldnt a battery pack be a much better option? I wish I can change the loop time on parking mode, besides the only available 45 seconds parking mode. There are other issues with the Viofo, and it falls on the software. If you have multiple drivers, I cannot have a master account, and the other accounts as guest, just for viewing. Lets say my brother wants to check if it is really recording, but dont want him to mess up with the settings. Or if it is my son-in-law, he can review a video, but do not want him to change mph features. The one thing I really would like to have available, to be able to start parking mode, not let the software do so, as it sometimes does not record. Few times I have gone to the mall and when I come back there is no footage, parking mode did not record anything, and this is with the Viofo. I wish I could just press a button and hear it engage parking mode, as that is the only reason I bought this camera for.

both do well, the main difference is in detail and A139 Pro having HDR that helps at nighttime. What if, you do not drive much at night. I've noticed that true 4K has more saturation in color. Do you care about License Plate reading? I do not. Primary use of a dash cam were meant for recording road trips, now dash cams are made for security features and recording vehicle incidents. Just drive with an Eye in the Sky and you will capture everything. Drive Defensively, use common sense, and park your vehicle in a safe area. If a criminal wants to take your vehicle or steal items from within your vehicle they will. Do not leave important documents or things of value in the car, take them with you. Why do you pay automobile insurance? to be protected from loss and damage to your vehicle. It is proven that car security alarms do not work, locking your doors do not work. If a thief wants something bad enough, they will get it. You just need to be prepared for the worst and know your surroundings. Safety comes 1st.

I don't take issue with any of these points. But another use-case that is of particular interest to me is my daughter driving to/from school where there are LOTs of new student drivers and where fender-benders are common (and commonly not reported if someone isn't there to witness it).

you should have rather fed the cable to the rear camera through the rubber grommet at the top of the hatch which is meant for cables to make it neater and more practical - good review by the way...

Please post where you purchased your Viofo dash cam for $225.! You stated that your wife's dash cam was $125. And for $100 more, you can purchase the a139 pro. Because when I go to your hyperlink. Just the a139 pro is $300. Add the hardwire kit, Wi-Fi and SD card. I'm coming up with around $380. And I didn't even add the tax.

yeah, prices have changed a bit since I posted...but I was actually referring to the single-channel A139 Pro (which is more of a direct comparison to my wife's dash cam) which costs right around $230 with coupon applied on Amazon US. But yeah, you starting all the options and it goes up in price very quickly. :-/

does it download fast enough to mobile in 5 ghz? I heard download is slow?excruciating slow?

It IS slow when downloading files to the phone...4K files are big. So I guess that something to be aware of, but I don't find that I really need to do that very often (ever) - and on the extremely rare occasion that I might need to, the several minutes of transfer time should be that big of a deal (to me, at least).
