4K DJI Drone Saint John, Flight to NB Partridge Island

This is a short video of my flight to Partridge Island in Saint John New Brunswick. As a resident, I have never been to the Island but have always been curious as to what it was like to visit there my whole life living in Saint John. Now I feel like I was there. The Island is much smaller than I imagined it was and there is certainly not to much to look at but the island does have an important part in the history of our city. You can see the fallen military ruins from days gone by. Concrete remnants of the large gun bases that once stood to protect the mouth of the Saint John River entrance are quit impressive I think.
And to this day of course the more modern day light house that is still in operation to help protect and guide ships entering the harbor.
The other thing I noticed while flying around the island is that it is habited by deer. At least one anyway. However protected by hunters and predators; my guess is that it must live a very lonely life. I feel sorry for the animal.
If anything, you will get a better glimpse of what it's like on the island. I hope you enjoy my flight.

I must say, you're a brave man. I was too scared to fly my drone that far, so I just stuck to filming the beach. Good job!

Thanks Dallas, It took me many months of flying before I had the nerve to fly that distance. The key is simply this, you must get it into your head that every time you fly, it could potentially be the last time you see your drone. Once you accept that, you are on your way. Mind you, I practiced for months and built up my confidence and learned the limits of my drone beforehand. I was not blind.

Thanks Paul, I fly the DJI Mini 2. I highly recommend the 2 for a drone of it's size. It has some great features like zoom for instance.

how long did it take to reach the island? Just got my mini 2 and still cautious about distance as yet. Love to try that sometime, any hints?

Hi Paul, I have a few tips for you. Always fly on a full battery - Make sure to set the RTH (return to home) correctly - Fly on a calm day (to maximize battery power if you can) - watch your screen for connection issues - be absolutely aware of your surroundings - practice on a large beach when the tide is out for example. I'd say it was less than 5 minutes to the Island honestly. Took months to get comfortable enough to fly there. Always fly knowing you just might lose your drone if you are out long distances. that being said you are NOT suppose to fly and lose sight of your drone to begin with. Probably the best thing to do, but sometimes difficult to resist doing. ;)
