Unfortunate, but not unusual. Those taildraggers have a tendency to nosedive during takeoff and landing. Luckily the pilot seems ok.

Hit a crosswind and clipped a runway sign, if I remember correctly. You can still see the signposts in front of the plane.

Tummelisa (named after a HC Andersen story) was a trainer and never used as a fighter. Being a trainer it was never armed except for one experiment. It was first flown in 1920, so was not around during WW1.

He was very lucky the fire team did not smother it in foam and hack it to pieces with their hatchets when they finally arrived, I think they must have driven from the next village they took so long to get there, glad there was no fire!

First responder with a extinguisher was maybe 50 meters from the crash, when they saw there was no fire, there was no rush to get the fire brigade involved.

Zum Glück ist dem Piloten nicht viel passiert. Das Flugzeug wird bestimmt bald wieder fliegen.

Those emergency service crew seems to take a very long time to respond? If it had caught fire and the pilot was trapped in the aircraft, he would have stood very little chance to walk away from that crash :-(

Seems the Tummelisa hit an installation of some sorts on the grass while landing? Can anyone at the show clearify?

It hit a crosswind, clipped a runway sign and flipped over the signposts. It was rather windy and not a really pleasant day to be at an airshow altogether.

Bei dieser Vorführung habe ich am Imbiss Stand gestanden um mich ein wenig zu stärken. Noch während ich Gegessen habe hörte ich ich etwas Unruhe aus dem Zuschauerbereich und sah dann Genau wie der eine Doppeldecker mit der Nase im Boden steckte, Aber so wie ich es mitbekommen habe ist ja Niemand verletzt worden. Das ist ja schon mal eine Erleichterung für uns Airshowbesucher, Bevor ich es vergesse bei der Airpower 2016 gab es Probleme bei der Vorführung der Belgischen F-16 wo dem Aufmerksamen Beobachter ein Triebwerksproblem auffiel. Es gab eine Seltsame große Nachbrennerflamme am Freitag, Und bei der Vorführung am Samstag beim Langsamen Vorbeiflug mit Kurvenflug gab es einen Knall der dem damaligen Piloten Tom Gizmo de Moortel dazu zwang die Vorführung vorzeitig abzubrechen und zu landen.

My goodness! That's some intense flying for planes that old! :o Glad the pilot that had the mishap wasn't badly hurt... phew!

The planes are not that old as they appear. They are built with as original materials as it´s possible to do, since Mikael Carlsson never cheats with details. The Ö1 Tummelisa (the one that crashed) was built between 1982-1989, and the Fokker DR1 was built 2004-2008. See www.aerodrome.se/ for more about Mikael and his aircrafts.

Oh, man! I was enjoying this until that plane crashed! Did the pilot make it out OK? Will the plane be repaired and returned to flight?

Pilot made it out just after it tipped over. Walked away and seemed to be ok, plane looks reperable.

Since Mikael scratch-built the whole plane by hand himself, he must be able to repair it after such an incident too. The Tummelisa was notorious for flipping over during landing if the student was a bit hard on the brakes. Ö1 is short for Övningsflygplan 1, in english Trainerairoplane 1. The designation "Ö" was later replaced with "Sk", short for Skol-flygplan (School-airoplan, (trainer)) Other swedish designations "J"=jakt (Fighter), "A"-Attack (same word), "S"=Spaning (Scouting/survailance), "B"=bomb (same word), "T"=Torpedflygplan (Torpedobomber)

Dogfight in Slow Motion, amazing how Things have changed in 35 Years, (recently i 've watched the Hawker Hunter) sad how it ends for the Tummelisa, it will take many Hours to bring it back in the Air, it looks like the left Wing got some Damage, but most important the Pilot may be all right 👍🏻
